The ceremonial and metropolitan county of Greater Manchester is divided into 27 parliamentary constituencies—16 borough constituencies and 11 county constituencies. At the 2019 general election in Greater Manchester, Labour won 18 seats and the Conservatives won 9. Constituencies 2010 boundary changes Under the Fifth Periodic Review of Westminster constituencies, the Boundary Commission for England decided to reduce the number of seats in Greater Manchester from 28 to 27, leading to significant changes in the city of Salford, where the three constituencies of Eccles, Salford and Worsley were abolished and replaced by the two constituencies of Salford and Eccles, and Worsley and Eccles South. The counties and areas for the purposes of the lieutenancies, also referred to as the lieutenancy areas of England and informally known as ceremonial counties, are areas of England to which lords-lieutenant are appointed. Julie Hilling
Julie Ann Hilling (born 29 April 1955) is a British Labour Party politician, who was the Member of Parliament (MP) for Bolton West from 2010 until 2015. Background Hilling was born in Oxford and lived there until the age of 9 when her family moved to Leighton Buzzard. She attended The Cedars School before studying Chemistry at the University of Nottingham and then attaining a Diploma in Youth and Community Work at Manchester Polytechnic. She has lived in Atherton, which became part of the Bolton West constituency at the 2010 General Election, for 24 years. Chris Green (politician)
Christopher Patrick James Green (born 12 August 1973) is a British Conservative Party politician who has served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Bolton West since 2015. He was elected again in 2017 and 2019, increasing his majority and vote share at both general elections. In August 2019, he was appointed as a Parliamentary Private Secretary in the Department for Education. Following the 2019 general election, he was appointed as a Parliamentary Private Secretary to Baroness Evans, Leader of the House of Lords and Lord Privy Seal. Bolton West is a constituency represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament since 2015 by Chris Green, a Conservative. Constituency profile The seat is on the outskirts of Greater Manchester with fields making for separate villages and towns, these buffer zones most often designated as Green belt, which includes areas for sport such as the ground of Bolton Wanderers at the University of Bolton Stadium. It includes the generally affluent towns of Blackrod, Horwich and Westhoughton in the western half of Bolton borough though in 2010 Atherton from the Wigan borough was added, a more Labour-leaning former coal mining town. To date the seat has been a marginal seat between the Labour and the Conservative parties, however as of the 2019 election, it is also the safest Conservative seat in Greater Manchester, with a larger majority than Altrincham and Sale West. Yasmin Qureshi
Yasmin Qureshi (born 5 July 1963) is a British Labour Party politician and a barrister practising criminal law. She headed the criminal legal section of the UN Mission in Kosovo and was later appointed Director of the department of Judicial Administration there. She was elected as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Bolton South East in the May 2010 general election. She became Shadow Minister for International Development in April 2020. David Crausby
Sir David Anthony Crausby (born 17 June 1946) is a British Labour politician who served as Member of Parliament (MP) for Bolton North East from 1997 to 2019. Born in Bury, Lancashire, Crausby worked as a turner and later became a workplace representative for the Amalgamated Engineering Union. He was a Member of Bury Metropolitan Borough Council from 1979 to 1992, and elected as an MP at the 1997 general election. A backbencher throughout his tenure in Parliament, Crausby was a long-serving member of the Defence Select Committee and Panel of Chairs. Mark Rory Logan (born 28 January 1984) is a British Conservative Party politician. He has been the Member of Parliament (MP) for Bolton North East since the 2019 general election. Early life Logan was born and grew up in County Antrim, Northern Ireland. He graduated from Queen's University Belfast, and then earned two master's degrees, one from the London School of Economics and the second from Wadham College, University of Oxford. Before becoming an MP, he worked in the Foreign Office at the British Consulate-General Shanghai where he was responsible for media and communications. Bolton North East is a constituency represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament since 2019 by Mark Logan, a Conservative. Constituency profile The seat covers the north part of Bolton town and extends into the West Pennine Moors. Bolton North East has more often than not to date been a marginal seat between Labour and Conservative candidates. In 1992, Labour's David Crausby came tantalisingly close to gaining the seat, but did not, as his party were expecting to. It would not be until 1997 that Labour gained the seat, with a huge 12,000 majority, holding it for the next 22 years. Altogether, the national statistics collected reflect a socially diverse seat in terms of income; this has been a highly marginal seat when national polls are close, with lower than average social housing, and less deprivation than the average for the metropolitan county.
