Helvetic Republic
The Helvetic Republic (, , ) was a sister republic of France that existed between 1798 and 1803, during the French Revolutionary Wars. It was created following the French invasion and the consequent dissolution of the Old Swiss Confederacy, marking the end of the ''ancien régime'' in Switzerland. Throughout its existence, the republic incorporated most of the territory of modern Switzerland, excluding the cantons of Geneva and Neuchâtel and the old Prince-Bishopric of Basel. The Swiss Confederacy, which until then had consisted of self-governing cantons united by a loose military alliance (and ruling over subject territories such as Vaud), was invaded by the French Revolutionary Army and turned into an ally known as the "Helvetic Republic". The interference with localism and traditional liberties was deeply resented, although some modernizing reforms took place. Niederlenz
Niederlenz is a municipality in the district of Lenzburg in the canton of Aargau in Switzerland. History The center of the village comes from a middle Bronze Age settlement and a later Roman era farm. However, the modern village of Niederlenz is first mentioned in 924 as ''de Lencis''. In 1261-64 it was mentioned as ''Nider-Lenz''. The high justice rights were held by Schloss Lenzburg until 1433 when those rights, along with the rights to low justice, were purchased by Bern. Later, the low justice rights reverted to the four villages of Niederlenz, Hunzenschwil, Rupperswil and Staufen. In 1480 village was incorporated with a local government. The village mill was built before 1461 and was pawned by Hans Heinrich of Rinach and then sold in 1486 to Hans von Hallwyl. It was in the possession of the Kull family for generations. Hans Caspar Hirzel
Hans Caspar Hirzel (21 March 1725 - 18 February 1803), also known or spelt as - Herzil John Caspar, Kaspar Hirzel, Johann Kasper Herzel, or John Kaspar Hirzel, was an eminent Swiss physician and writer on rural economy. Biography Hirzel was born in Zürich in 1725 and adopted the medical profession by his learning and intelligence. He distinguished himself in lecturing on the theory and practice of medicine, including instructions to midwives. He was one of the principal founders of the Helvetic Society in 1726 along with Isaak Iselin, Salomon Gessner, and some 20 others. He translated the works of ''Tissot'' into German; subsequently, Hirzel published a ''Treatise on Rural Economy'', in acquaintance with a Swiss farmer, who is distinguished for his agriculture industry and skill. Hirzel conceived the notion of publishing the result of this man's (the Swiss farmer) experience in his agricultural occupation, including facts and observations from other sources.
