Charles Monck, 4th Viscount Monck
Charles Stanley Monck, 4th Viscount Monck (10 October 1819 – 29 November 1894) was an Irish politician who served as the last governor-general of the Province of Canada and the first Governor General of Canada after Canadian Confederation. Early life Charles Stanley Monck was born in Templemore, Ireland on 10 October 1819, which was part of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland at the time. He was the son of Charles Monck, 3rd Viscount Monck, and his wife Bridget ''née'' Willington. His paternal grandparents were Charles Monck, 1st Viscount Monck and the former Anne Quin. After his uncle, Henry Monck, 1st Earl of Rathdowne (and 2nd Viscount), died without male heirs (but was father to nine girls), the earldom became extinct and the late earl’s younger brother (Charles Stanley's father Charles) became the 3rd Viscount. Henry Gates (MP)
Sir Henry Gates (c. 1515 – 7 April 1589), of Seamer, Yorkshire; Kilburn, Middlesex; Kew, Surrey and Havering, Essex, was an English courtier and politician. He was a younger son of Sir Geoffrey Gates of High Easter, Essex and the brother of John Gates (executed for treason in 1553). He became a Member (MP) of the Parliament of England for New Shoreham in 1545, Bridport in 1547 and Bramber in 1549. He was appointed a Gentleman of the Privy Chamber under King Edward VI by June 1551, a position he held until the king's death in 1553. He was knighted by the Lord Protector in 1547. He acquired a number of public offices such as Comptroller of Petty Customs (1551–53) and Receiver-General of the Duchy of Cornwall (1552–53). With his brother he supported the bid in 1553 to put Lady Jane Grey on the English throne and the two were arrested, sent to the tower and found guilty of treason. Thomas Arundell Of Lanherne
Sir Thomas Arundell of Wardour Castle in Wiltshire (c. 150226 February 1552) was a Cornish administrator and alleged conspirator. Arundell was connected by birth and marriage to the crown and to several of the most important families in England, and by the time of the death of King Henry VIII was one of the most experienced government officers in England. Those in power had concerns about his influence and his family's devotion to the old religion. Vague and unproven allegations of complicity in the southwestern rebellion in 1549 were made against him. In late 1551 he temporarily aligned himself with the Protector Somerset, thereby putting himself in conflict with John Dudley, Earl of Warwick. He was arrested and charged with conspiring to overthrow the government and murder the Earl. He was convicted, and beheaded on Tower Hill on 26 February 1552. John Arundell (1474–1545)
Sir John Arundell (1474–1545) Knight Banneret, of Lanherne, St Mawgan-in-Pyder, Cornwall, was "the most important man in the county", being Receiver-General of the Duchy of Cornwall. His monumental brass in the church at St Columb Major in Cornwall was described by Dunkin (1882) as "perhaps the most elaborate and interesting brass to be found in Cornwall". Origins He was the eldest son of Sir Thomas Arundell (1454–1485) KB, by his wife Katharine Dynham, third daughter of John Dynham (1406–1458) and wife Joan Arches, and coheiress to her brother John, 1st Baron Dynham. His family's establishment was at Lanherne House, mainly built in the 16th and 17th centuries. Sir William Dunbar, 7th Baronet (2 March 1812 – 17 December 1889) was a Scottish Liberal Member of Parliament in the British House of Commons.
