The UK Albums Chart is a weekly record chart based on album sales from Sunday to Saturday in the United Kingdom; during the 2000s, a total of 274 different albums by 170 artists reached number one. The chart was compiled weekly by the Official Charts Company (OCC) on behalf of the British music industry—it listed only physical album sales until 2007, after which it also included albums sold digitally. The OCC defined an "album" to be any music release that featured more than four tracks or lasted longer than 25 minutes. Each week's new number one was first announced on Sunday evenings by BBC Radio 1 on their weekly chart show. The most successful albums during the 2000s were ''Life for Rent'' by Dido and ''Back to Bedlam'' by James Blunt. Released in 2003 and 2004 respectively, each spent ten weeks at number one—''Back to Bedlam'' was also the biggest-selling album of the decade. Boy Band
A boy band is loosely defined as a vocal group consisting of young male singers, usually in their teenage years or in their twenties at the time of formation. Generally, boy bands perform love songs marketed towards girls and young women. Many boy bands dance as well as sing, usually giving highly choreographed performances. South Korean boy bands usually also have designated rappers. Some such bands are formed on their own, often evolving out of church choral or gospel music groups. In contrast, others are created by talent managers or record producers who hold auditions. Being vocal groups, most boy band members do not play musical instruments, either in recording sessions or on-stage. They are similar in concept to their counterparts known as girl groups. The Coral
The Coral are an English rock band, formed in 1996 in Hoylake on the Wirral Peninsula, Merseyside. The band emerged during the early 2000s. Their 2002 debut album '' The Coral'', from which came the single " Dreaming of You", was nominated for the Mercury Music Prize and listed as the fourth best album of the year by '' NME''. ''Magic and Medicine'' is the second studio album by English rock band the Coral. It was released on 28 July 2003, through Deltasonic. Within three months of releasing their self-titled debut studio album, the band began recording material for their next album in October 2002. Sessions were produced by the Lightning Seeds frontman Ian Broudie, with co-production from the Coral; recording continued in-between tours of the United States and Europe, finishing in April 2003. Described as a pop rock and psychedelic pop release, ''Magic and Medicine'' was compared to the work of the Animals, with frontman James Skelly's vocals recalling that band's frontman Eric Burdon.
