Newspapers
A newspaper is a periodical publication containing written information about current events and is often typed in black ink with a white or gray background. Newspapers can cover a wide variety of fields such as politics, business, sports and art, and often include materials such as opinion columns, weather forecasts, reviews of local services, obituaries, birth notices, crosswords, editorial cartoons, comic strips, and advice columns. Most newspapers are businesses, and they pay their expenses with a mixture of subscription revenue, newsstand sales, and advertising revenue. The journalism organizations that publish newspapers are themselves often metonymically called newspapers. ''Fyens Stiftstidende'' is a daily newspaper in Denmark and has its headquarters in Odense. The paper serves for Funen. History and profile The newspaper was first published on 3 January 1772. It was part of the Stiftstidende dailies. The other two Stiftstidende newspapers were published in Aalborg, '' Aalborg Stiftstidende'', which was founded in 1767, and in Aarhus, namely ''Århus Stiftstidende'', which was started in 1794. Until 1841 the newspaper was known as ''Kongelig Priviligerede Odense Adresse-Contoirs Efterretninger''. Funen
Funen ( da, Fyn, ), with an area of , is the third-largest island of Denmark, after Zealand and Vendsyssel-Thy. It is the 165th-largest island in the world. It is located in the central part of the country and has a population of 469,947 as of 2020. Funen's main city is Odense, which is connected to the sea by a seldom-used canal. The city's shipyard, Odense Steel Shipyard, has been relocated outside Odense proper. Funen belongs administratively to the Region of Southern Denmark. From 1970 to 2006 the island formed the biggest part of Funen County, which also included the islands of Langeland, Ærø, Tåsinge, and a number of smaller islands. ''Weekendavisen'' (meaning ''The Weekend Newspaper'' in English) is a Danish weekly broadsheet newspaper published on Fridays in Denmark. Its circulation (as of 2007) is approximately 60,000 copies, about ten per cent of which cover subscriptions outside Denmark. According to opinion polls, however, the actual number of readers is much higher (290,000 in 2007). ''Søndagsavisen'' is a free Danish countrywide weekend newspaper. It has a circulation of 1.2 million and approximately 1.3 million readers each weekend. That makes it the most widely read newspaper in Denmark. Its primary focus is weighted towards people between 25 and 50 years old, primarily families with children. It is distributed in 23 different regional editions. The editorial content is oriented towards a national audience and is the same in all regions; only the adverts differ.
