List Of Post-punk Revival Bands
Post-punk revival is a type of indie rock that emulates the sound of post-punk bands of the late 1970s and new wave bands of the early 1980s and has been stylistically tied to 1990s music movements such as shoegaze, Britpop, garage revival and post-hardcore. They feature a more artsy, complex sound than other branches of indie rock, and often add synthesizer or other electronic sounds to the traditional guitar, bass and drums lineup. Post-punk revivalism started in England in the early 2000s and, while it is still strongest there, has grown in popularity in the US, Australia and Canada. The Citizens' Voice
''The Citizens' Voice'' is a compact newspaper published daily in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. Its 2005 circulation was 32,862, mostly Luzerne County residents. Founding The newspaper was founded in 1978 by striking employees of the Wilkes-Barre Publishing Company, which published the ''Times Leader''. Established on October 9 of that year, ''The Citizens' Voice'' was initially a "strike newspaper" published by the local Newspaper Guild, but quickly grew to become a direct competitor to the ''Times Leader''. After 11 years, the Newspaper Guild turned control of ''The Citizens' Voice'' over to the original striking employees. The Citizens' Voice, Inc., was formed to manage the newspaper. The B-52's
The B-52's, also styled as The B-52s, are an American new wave band formed in Athens, Georgia, in 1976. The original lineup consisted of Fred Schneider (vocals, percussion), Kate Pierson (vocals, keyboards, synth bass), Cindy Wilson (vocals, percussion), Ricky Wilson (guitar), and Keith Strickland (drums, guitar, keyboards). Ricky Wilson died of AIDS-related illness in 1985, and Strickland switched from drums to lead guitar. The band also added various members for albums and live performances. The group evoked a "thrift shop aesthetic", in Bernard Gendron's words, by drawing from 1950s and 1960s pop sources, trash culture, and rock and roll. Aztec Camera
Aztec Camera were a Scottish pop/ new wave band founded by Roddy Frame, the group's singer, songwriter, and only consistent member. Formed in 1980, Aztec Camera released a total of six studio albums: ''High Land, Hard Rain'' (1983), ''Knife'' (1984), '' Love'' (1987), '' Stray'' (1990), '' Dreamland'' (1993), and ''Frestonia'' (1995). Azra
Azra was a Croatian and Yugoslav rock band that was one of the most popular acts of the Yugoslav new wave music of the 1980s. Azra was formed in 1977 by its frontman Branimir "Johnny" Štulić. The other two members of the original line-up were Mišo Hrnjak ( bass) and Boris Leiner ( drums). The band is named after a verse "''Und der Sklave sprach: “Ich heiße Mohamet, ich bin aus Yemen, Und mein Stamm sind jene Asra, Welche sterben, wenn sie lieben.”''" (trans. "''My name is El Muhamed/From the tribe of the old Azras/who die for love/And die when they kiss!''") from "Der Asra" by Heinrich Heine. ''Trouser Press'' was a rock and roll magazine started in New York in 1974 as a mimeographed fanzine by editor/publisher Ira Robbins, fellow fan of the Who Dave Schulps and Karen Rose under the name "Trans-Oceanic Trouser Press" (a reference to a song by the Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band and an acronymic play on the British TV show '' Top of the Pops)''. The Avant Gardeners
The Avant Gardeners were a new wave band influenced by 1960s psychedelic rock, originally from Okehampton, Devon, but soon moving to London, England, formed in 1977, initially as The Avant Gardener. The Avant Gardener's line-up was initially Russell Murch (vocals, guitar), Martin Sanders (guitar), Nigel Rae (bass), and Mike Kelly (drums). Their first release was a self-titled EP on Virgin Records in 1977, after which they split up. Two tracks from the EP were included on Virgin's new wave showcase compilation ''Guillotine''. Murch reformed the band in 1980 as The Avant Gardeners, with new musicians Mike Roberts (guitar) and Rob Hill (bass), along with a series of guest drummers. The Attractions
The Attractions were an English backing band for the English new wave musician Elvis Costello between 1977 and 1986, and again from 1994 to 1996. They consisted of Steve Nieve (keyboards and ukulele), Bruce Thomas (bass guitar), and Pete Thomas (drums). They also released one album (and two associated singles) as an independent entity, without Costello, in 1980. They have been called one of the best backing bands in rock history. History Backing for Costello's 1977 debut album was provided by the American West Coast band Clover. Associates (band)
The Associates (or simply Associates) were a Scottish post-punk and pop band, formed in Dundee in 1979 by singer Billy Mackenzie and guitarist Alan Rankine. The group first gained recognition after releasing an unauthorized cover of David Bowie's " Boys Keep Swinging" as their debut single in 1979, which landed them a contract with Fiction Records. They followed with their debut album '' The Affectionate Punch'' in 1980 and the singles collection '' Fourth Drawer Down'' in 1981, both to critical praise. They achieved commercial success in 1982 with the UK Top 10 album '' Sulk'' and UK Top 20 singles " Party Fears Two" and "Club Country", during which time they were associated with the New Pop movement. Joan Anita Barbara Armatrading, (, born 9 December 1950) is a Kittitian-English singer-songwriter and guitarist. A three-time Grammy Award nominee, Armatrading has also been nominated twice for BRIT Awards as Best Female Artist. She received an Ivor Novello Award for Outstanding Contemporary Song Collection in 1996. In a recording career spanning nearly 50 years, Armatrading has released 20 studio albums, as well as several live albums and compilations.
