Piscataway () is a township in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. It is a suburb of the New York metropolitan area, in the Raritan Valley. At the 2010 United States Census, the population was 56,044, an increase of 5,562 (+11.0%) from 50,482 at the 2000 Census, which had in turn increased by 3,393 (+7.2%) from 47,089 in 1990. The name may be derived from the area's earliest European settlers who came from near the Piscataqua River, a landmark defining the coastal border between New Hampshire and Maine, whose name derives from (branch) and (tidal river), or alternatively from (meaning "dark night") and ("place of") or from a Lenape language word meaning "great deer". Livingston Campus (Rutgers University)
Livingston Campus, originally named Kilmer Area by Rutgers University in 1965, and later known as Kilmer Campus, is one of the five sub-campuses that make up Rutgers' New Brunswick/ Piscataway area campus. The campus was originally built to house Livingston College. The majority of its land is the Rutgers Ecological Preserve. Most of the campus is within the boundaries of Piscataway, but parts extend into Highland Park and Edison. Campus history University buildings were erected on the Kilmer Area land in Piscataway, between Metlars and Cedar Lanes starting in 1969, with the creation of Livingston College. The land had formerly been part of the U.S. Army's Camp Kilmer, a staging area during World War II. The army reserve continued using a small part of the original army campus until 2009. Briarwood East is an unincorporated community and residential neighborhood located within Edison Township in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. It is located in the northern half of Edison Township; east of Carriage Hill, south east of Glenwood Park and Chandler Hill, south of the Oak Tree Park, west of Timber Grove and north of Tamarack North. The community is centered on the eastern half of Stephenville Parkway, a median strip-street which runs the entirety of the neighborhood between George Avenue and Midland Road. Stelton is an unincorporated community located within Edison Township in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. Established in 1689, the Stelton Baptist Church is the state's second oldest baptist congregation. The present-day NJ Transit Edison station was originally constructed at Central Avenue and Plainfield Avenue and named “Stelton” after the Stelle family, early settlers in Piscatawaytown who arrived in 1668 and who were still numerous in the area in the 1880s. New Durham was an unincorporated community and now a neighborhood located within Edison in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States, south of Dismal Swamp. Along with Piscatawaytown, Bonhamtown, New Dover and Stelton, New Durham is one of the older historical crossroad communities established in Edison (either as once part of Piscataway or Woodbridge before the establishment of Raritan Township, as Edison was earlier known). Bonhamtown is a section of Edison Township in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. The area was named after Nicholas Bonham, a freeholder from the 17th century. Along with New Dover, New Durham, and Stelton it is one of the older historical communities established when the municipality was known as Raritan Township. Bonhamtown is surrounded by several major roads, which include: Interstate 287, the New Jersey Turnpike, U.S. Route 1, Route 27, and Route 440.
