Goalkeeper (water Polo)
In water polo, the goalkeeper occupies a position as the last line of defense between the opponent's offence and their own team's goal, which is . The goalkeeper position is unique; they possess certain privileges and are subject to different restrictions than those of field players. Accordingly , they possess different skills than those of the field players. Goalkeepers often have longer playing careers than field players because they need mental power rather than physical power. In water polo, the goalkeeper is commonly known as the ''goalie'' or ''keeper'' and may also be known as ''the man/woman in the cage''. Erich Rademacher
Fritz Albert Erich "Ete" Rademacher (9 June 1901 – 2 April 1979) was a German breaststroke swimmer and water polo goalkeeper who competed at the 1928 and 1932 Olympics. In 1928 he was a member of the German team that won the gold medal, he also won a silver medal in the 200 m breaststroke. Four years later he won another silver medal with the German water polo team. His younger brother Joachim was his teammate in both water polo tournaments. At the European championships Rademacher won two gold medals in swimming (1926–1927) and two medals in water polo (1926 and 1931). He set world records in 1920, 1921, 1923, 1925 and 1926 in the 400 m breaststroke, in 1922 and 1927 in the 200 m breaststroke, in 1924 in the 200 yards breaststroke, and in 1925 in the 100 and 500 m breaststrokes. Ottó Boros
Ottó Boros (5 August 1929 – 18 December 1988) was a Hungarian water polo player who competed in the 1956 Summer Olympics, in the 1960 Summer Olympics, and in the 1964 Summer Olympics. He was born in Békéscsaba and died in Szolnok. Boros was part of the Hungarian team which won the gold medal in the 1956 tournament. He played four matches as goalkeeper. Four years later he was a member of the Hungarian team which won the bronze medal in the 1960 Olympic tournament. He played five matches as goalkeeper. At the 1964 Games he won his second gold medal with the Hungarian team. He played three matches as goalkeeper. László Jeney
László Jeney (30 May 1923 – 24 April 2006) was a Hungarian water polo player who competed in the 1948 Summer Olympics, 1952 Summer Olympics, 1956 Summer Olympics, and 1960 Summer Olympics. He is one of eight male athletes who won four or more Olympic medals in water polo. He was born in Cluj, Kingdom of Romania and died in Budapest. Jeney was part of the Hungarian team which won the silver medal in the 1948 tournament. He played two matches as goalkeeper. Four years later he was a member of the Hungarian team which won the gold medal in the 1952 Olympic tournament. He played six matches as goalkeeper. At the 1956 Games he won again the gold medal with the Hungarian team. He played two matches as goalkeeper. His last Olympic tournament was in Rome 1960 where he won the bronze medal. Róbert Antal
Róbert Antal (Former name: ''Róbert Adler'', July 21, 1921 – February 1, 1995) was a Hungarian water polo player who competed in the 1952 Summer Olympics. Antal, who was Jewish, was born in Budapest and died in Toronto, Canada. 1952 Olympics Antal was part of the Hungarian Water Polo team which won the gold medal in the 1952 Helsinki Olympics. The victory was Hungary's third Olympic Gold medal title, and Hungary would prove to have a top rated National Water Polo Team. Antal played two matches. In the semi-final, Hungary beat the Soviet Union 6-4, the day after beating Egypt 9-0. A victory over the Soviet Team was noteworthy, as the Soviets had not been to an Olympics since the October Revolution of 1917, and their participation was carefully observed by the press. Taking the gold medal in the final round, the Hungarian team defeated Yugoslavia, who took the Silver medal. Antal played goalkeeper. Pasquale Buonocore (17 May 1916 in Naples – 31 August 2003) was an Italian water polo player who competed in the 1948 Summer Olympics. He was part of the Italian team which won the gold medal. He played all seven matches as goalkeeper.
