Moose Jaw
Moose Jaw is the fourth largest city in Saskatchewan, Canada. Lying on the Moose Jaw River in the south-central part of the province, it is situated on the Trans-Canada Highway, west of Regina. Residents of Moose Jaw are known as Moose Javians. The city is surrounded by the Rural Municipality of Moose Jaw No. 161. In a first-past-the-post electoral system (FPTP or FPP), formally called single-member plurality voting (SMP) when used in single-member districts or informally choose-one voting in contrast to ranked voting, or score voting, voters cast their vote for a candidate of their choice, and the candidate who receives the most votes wins even if the top candidate gets less than 50%, which can happen when there are more than two popular candidates. James Pascoe
James Pascoe (November 29, 1863 – September 7, 1931) was a British-born farmer and political figure in Saskatchewan. He represented Moose Jaw City in the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan from 1921 to 1925 as an independent Conservative. Biography He was born in Cornwall on November 29, 1863, the son of John Pascoe and Marjorie Wills, and came to Canada around 1870. The family first settled in North Dorchester, Ontario; in 1892, his parents moved to a homestead near Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan where they spent the rest of their lives. Pascoe acquired his own homestead near Regina around 1883. After four years, he moved to Michigan and then back to Ontario; during this time, he was involved in the lumber business. Pascoe married Mary Olton in 1887. In 1891, he travelled west again, settling on his own homestead near Moose Jaw. John Wesley Corman
John Wesley Corman (August 2, 1884 – April 29, 1969) was a lawyer and political figure in Saskatchewan. He represented Moose Jaw City from 1944 to 1956 in the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan as a Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (CCF) member. He was born in Stoney Creek, Ontario (now Hamilton, Ontario), the son of William Corman, and studied political science at the University of Toronto. After receiving his B.A. in 1912, he moved west, studying law in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, and was called to the Saskatchewan bar in 1915. In 1914, he married Mabel "Con" Conner. Corman practised law in Moose Jaw and was active in the Liberal Party. However, he became dissatisfied with the Liberals during the Great Depression. He was elected to Moose Jaw City Council in 1937 and was mayor from 1939 to 1944. Corman ran unsuccessfully for a seat in the provincial assembly in 1938 as a Social Credit candidate. Ray Boughen (May 25, 1937 – December 24, 2022) was a Canadian politician who was mayor of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, and a Member of Parliament. Glenn Joseph Hagel (born August 17, 1949) is a Canadian provincial and municipal politician. He was a Saskatchewan New Democratic Party member of the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan from 1986 to 2007, representing the constituencies of Moose Jaw North or Moose Jaw Palliser at different times during his career. He also served as Speaker of the Legislative Assembly from 1996 to 1999. He was born in Drumheller, Alberta and was educated at the University of Manitoba and the University of Regina.
