Flag Of Hamilton, Ontario
The flag of Hamilton was designed by Bishop Ralph Spence and granted to the city on July 15, 2003. The flag was specially designed to complement the Canadian flag being a triband with a Canadian pale at centre. The colours are yellow and royal blue. In the centre is a golden yellow cinquefoil which, as the badge of Clan Hamilton, represents the city's name. The chain on the outside symbolizes both unity and the community's steel industry. The six links in the chain represent the city's six communities: Hamilton, Ancaster, Dundas, Flamborough, Glanbrook, and Stoney Creek. John Francis Moore (politician)
John Francis Moore (1816 Wiltshire, England- April 5, 1870, Montreal, Quebec) was a lumber merchant and politician. He was mayor of Hamilton, Ontario in 1857. He was married twice, first to Jane Loughry, and secondly to Elizabeth Donnelly. Little is known of the life of John Francis Moore, who came to Hamilton about 1840. He and his brother Edward formed ''J. and F. Moore Lumber Merchants and Nursery'', located at Rebecca Street; south side of market square. The brothers also owned a planing and veneering mill on Wellington Street between King William and Rebecca streets, and constructed many houses on Cathcart Street. The business apparently lasted until 1865, when it ceased to appear in the city directory. Moore was elected alderman to represent St. Lawrence's Ward and was chosen as Mayor in 1857 by the council. Alexander McKay (April 19, 1843 – April 21, 1912) was mayor of Hamilton, Ontario from 1886 to 1887. Daniel Black Chisholm
Daniel Black Chisholm (November 30, 1832 – September 22, 1898) was a farmer, lawyer and mayor of Hamilton, Ontario from 1871–1872. In the 1872 federal election he was elected to the House of Commons of Canada representing Hamilton as a Liberal-Conservative. He was re-elected in Halton in 1874 but unseated in 1875 after an appeal and defeated in the 1875 by-election which followed. Biography He was born in East Flamboro Township, Wentworth County, Canada West, the son of George Chisholm. After the death of his parents, Chisholm farmed for a number of years. In 1837, he sold the farm and studied for two years at Victoria College in Cobourg. Chisholm studied law with Miles O'Reilly in Hamilton, was called to the bar in 1864 and set up practice in Hamilton. In 1864, he married Adeline Davis; Chisholm and his wife were both involved in the temperance movement in Hamilton.
