Linguistics is the science, scientific study of human language. It is called a scientific study because it entails a comprehensive, systematic, objective, and precise analysis of all aspects of language, particularly its nature and structure. Days Of Swiss Linguistics
The Days of Swiss Linguistics (DSL) (German: Tage der Schweizer Linguistik (TSL), French: Journées de linguistique suisse (JLS), Italian: Giornate della linguistica svizzere (GLS)) is a series of linguistics conferences held biennially at one of the Swiss universities on behalf of the Swiss Linguistics Society (SSG). It is an international conference for researchers from Switzerland, Europe and beyond. Manchester Phonology Meeting
The Manchester Phonology Meeting (abbreviated and stylised as mfm) is an annual linguistic conference, held at Hulme Hall in Manchester, in the United Kingdom, from 1993 - 2018, and at other venues at the University of Manchester from 2019. Submitted abstracts undergo an anonymous peer-review process before being selected for inclusion by an organising committee and international advisory board of prominent linguists. Presentations have, over the years, taken on a broad range of phonological topics, from phonological acquisition and the phonological description of languages to the interfaces between phonology and other subfields of linguistics such as morphology and syntax. The Manchester Phonology Meeting is the longest-running international conference dedicated exclusively to phonology. The International Phonetic Association (IPA; French: ', ''API'') is an organization that promotes the scientific study of phonetics and the various practical applications of that science. The IPA's major contribution to phonetics is the International Phonetic Alphabet—a notational standard for the phonetic representation of all languages. New Sounds
''New Sounds'' was originally a 10" LP compiling previously released 78 rpm records on the Blue Note label. A CD reissue with the same name and cover appeared in 1991, but while using many of the same personnel, had only two tracks in common with the original LP. It instead compiled a distinct James Moody 10" LP (''James Moody and his Modernists'', BLP 5006) with the Art Blakey tracks and included several tracks previously unreleased on LP or any format. Conversely, the tracks omitted from the CD, which were on the Moody LP, have not been reissued on CD. Background In December 1947, Art Blakey formed a group for his first sessions as a leader. Dubbed Art Blakey's Messengers, this group was a precursor to The Jazz Messengers groups of the next decade and beyond. Blakey had recently gone on a pilgrimage to Africa and adopted Islam. West African Linguistic Society
The West African Linguistic Society (abbreviated as WALS) is an academic scholarly society formed in 1965 to foster and encourage research in the West African languages and literature as well as provide a permanent forum for interaction and exchange of ideas among scholars of African languages. Membership of the Society is largely drawn from teachers and researchers in universities and research institutes and they include scholars from all over the world.
