The Caspian Sea is the world's largest inland body of water, often described as the world's largest lake or a full-fledged sea. An endorheic basin, it lies between Europe and Asia; east of the Caucasus, west of the broad steppe of Central Asia, south of the fertile plains of Southern Russia in Eastern Europe, and north of the mountainous Iranian Plateau of Western Asia. Lake Ilmen
Lake Ilmen ( rus, И́льмень, p=ˈilʲmʲɪnʲ) is a large lake in the Novgorod Oblast of Russia. A historically important lake, it formed a vital part of the medieval trade route from the Varangians to the Greeks. The city of Novgorod - which is a major trade-center of the route - lies six kilometers below the lake's outflow. According to the Max Vasmer's ''Etymological Dictionary'', the name of the lake originates from the Finnic ''Ilmajärvi'', which means "air lake". Thanks to Novgorodian colonisation, many lakes in Russia have names deriving from Lake Ilmen. Lake Ilirney ( Chukchi ''Элер-нэй'') is a group of two lakes of Bilibinsky District, Chukotka Autonomous Okrug, Russia. Lake Tytyl lies 33 km to the east. Lake Evoron () is a large freshwater lake in Khabarovsk Krai, Russia. It is located in the Gorin river basin, part of the Amur basin. It has an area of 194 square kilometres, and is 30 km long and 12 km wide. Its average depth is about 2–3 m. The lake is used for fishing. The Evur and Shroki rivers flow into the lake. Lake Emanda ( or Эманджа, sah, Эмандьа, ''Emanca'') is a freshwater lake in Tomponsky District, Sakha Republic, Russia. Elgygytgyn Lake
Lake El'gygytgyn (Russian and Chukchi: Эльгыгытгын) is an impact crater lake located in the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug in northeast Siberia, about southeast of Chaunskaya Bay. The word "Elgygytgyn" means "white lake" in the Chukchi language. The lake is of particular interest to scientists because it has never been covered by glaciers. This has allowed the uninterrupted build-up of of sediment at the bottom of the lake, recording information on prehistoric climate change. The Ekityki Lake (russian: Озеро Экитыки; ''Ozero Ekityki'') is a lake in the Chukotka Mountains, in the Siberian Far East. It belongs to the Ekityki river basin and the Ekityki River flows through it. Geography The shape of the Ekityki Lake is long and narrow ( in length and an average of in width). Ebeyty (russian: Эбейты) is a salt lake in Omsk Oblast, Russian Federation. The Kazakhstan–Russia border lies about to the southeast of the lake. Ebeyty lies at the tripoint of Moskalensky, Poltavsky and Isilkulsky districts. The waters of the lake are reputed to have healing properties. Geography Ebeyty lies in the southern part of the Ishim Plain, the southernmost sector of the West Siberian Plain. It is a saline endorheic lake located at the bottom of a depression. Dorong (russian: Доронг) is a body of fresh water in the Bauntovsky District, Buryatia, Russia. The name originated in an Evenki word. Dorong is a natural monument of Russia because of its landscapes. The valley of the lake acts as a corridor and is usually very windy. Geography The lake is located at the southwestern corner of the Southern Muya Range, near where it merges with the Ikat Range. It is a deep and elongated lake, bound by steep mountains on both sides.
