U.S. Army General Hospital No. 1, also known as Columbia War Hospital, was a World War I era field hospital built by Columbia University on the Columbia Oval property in Norwood, The Bronx. The hospital was used as a medical training facility, a model for military field hospitals, and for long-term treatment of patients. Columbia Oval The property that the hospital was built on was an athletic field owned by Columbia University called ''"Columbia Oval"''. St Barnabas Hospital is a non-profit teaching hospital founded in 1866. The hospital is located in the Belmont neighborhood of The Bronx in New York City. It is a level II adult trauma center and is a major clinical affiliate for clinical clerkship of the New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine. History St Barnabas Hospital, originally known as the Home for the Incurables, was founded in 1866 by Reverend Washington Rodman, of the Grace Episcopal Church in West Farms, Bronx. The hospital became the first chronic disease hospital and was housed in a modest frame house and could serve 33 patients. The Sisters of Misericorde were a religious congregation founded by Marie-Rosalie Cadron-Jetté (1794 - 1864) in Montreal, Quebec, in 1848 and was dedicated to nursing the poor and unwed mothers. History Rosalie Cadron was born on a farm north of Montreal on January 27, 1794. Her mother was a mid-wife, a skill she passed on to her daughter. At age 17, she married 33-year-old Jean-Marie Jetté, and eventually bore eleven children, many of whom died very young. Madame Jetté, now widowed, began her work by giving refuge to a prostitute. In the early 1840s, Bishop Bourget asked Jetté if she would provide a safe, discreet, and welcoming home for expectant unmarried women. Madame agreed and provided shelter, not only in her own home, but in the homes of her adult children. From 1840 to 1845 Rosalie took in twenty-five women. Children's Hospital At Montefiore
The Children's Hospital at Montefiore (CHAM) is a nationally ranked pediatric acute care children's teaching hospital located in the Bronx, New York. The hospital has 193 pediatric beds and is affiliated with the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. The hospital is a member of the Montefiore health network and is the only children's hospital in the network. The hospital provides comprehensive pediatric specialties and subspecialties to infants, children, teens, and young adults aged 0–21 throughout the Bronx and New York state.
