Old Treasury Building, Melbourne
The Old Treasury Building on Spring Street in Melbourne, built 1858-62 as a home for the Treasury Department of the Government of Victoria as well as the Governor In Council, now houses a range of functions, including a museum of Melbourne history, known as Old Treasury Building Museum. History The Treasury Building was constructed between 1858–62, and is considered one of Australia's finest Renaissance Revival buildings, constructed in palazzo form and built from wealth accumulated during the Victorian Gold Rush. One original purpose was to house some of that wealth in the 'gold vaults' in the basement, but by the time it was finished the rush was over, and they were used to store government documents instead. Melbourne Town Hall
Melbourne Town Hall is the central city town hall of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, and is a historic building in the state of Victoria since 1867. Located in the central business district on the northeast corner of the intersection between Swanston and Collins Street, it is the seat of the local municipality of the City of Melbourne, and has been used for multiple purposes such as concerts, theatrical plays and exhibitions. Footscray Town Hall
Footscray Town Hall, also known as ''Maribyrnong Town Hall'' since council amalgamations in the 1990s, is a civic building located on Napier Street in Footscray, a suburb of Melbourne, Australia. The hall was built in 1936 to the design of architect Joseph Plottel in the Romanesque Revival—Richardson Romanesque style. It replaced the previous town hall on the same site, which was demolished in 1935. The building is now used as the main council chambers of the City of Maribyrnong. Fitzroy Town Hall
Fitzroy Town Hall is a civic building located in Napier Street in Fitzroy, a suburb of Melbourne, Australia. It was constructed in two separate stages. The first consisted of a hall and tower which was designed by William J. Ellis and built in 1873. Between 1887 and 1890, a new stage designed by George Johnson was added to this comprising municipal offices, a police station and a courthouse as well as extensions to the hall. The clock tower added at this time replaced the original tower. The building is an example of the Free Classical style of Victorian architecture and is recorded as a "Heritage place" by Heritage Victoria. After the amalgamation of the City of Fitzroy with the Cities of Collingwood and Richmond in 1994 forming the City of Yarra, the Town Hall now functions as secondary offices, service centre and library servicing the Collingwood area for the City of Yarra. Collingwood Town Hall
Collingwood Town Hall is a civic building located on Hoddle Street in Abbotsford, a suburb of Melbourne, Australia. The hall was built between 1885 and 1887 to the competition-winning design of local architect George R. Johnson in the Second Empire style, rich in detail with domed mansard roofs and a soaring clock tower. It is widely considered one of the finest town halls in Australia, and, along with the Sydney Town Hall and South Melbourne Town Hall, one of the best example of the Second Empire style in Australia. The Collingwood Town Hall building incorporated many functions in the one project, with a grand hall, a supper room, municipal offices and council chamber, post office, police station and court house, and a mechanics' institute (comprising separate ladies' and gentlemen's library rooms). Box Hill Town Hall
The Box Hill Town Hall is a landmark civic building located (at ) on Whitehorse Road, Box Hill, Victoria, Australia. Designed in the Neo-Grec style by architects JS Gawler and JCA Isbett, the town hall was built between 1934 and 1935. It was the administrative and community headquarters of the City of Box Hill prior to that city’s amalgamation with the City of Nunawading to form the new City of Whitehorse in 1994. The town hall is described as having "regional architectural, historic and social importance" by the National Trust of Australia (Victoria). Its imposing façade has been utilised by the television series ''Neighbours'' as the external setting for the court house in the fictional town of Erinsborough. State Library Victoria (SLV) is the state library of Victoria, Australia. Located in Melbourne, it was established in 1854 as the Melbourne Public Library, making it Australia's oldest public library and one of the first free libraries in the world. It is also Australia's busiest library and, as of 2018, the world's fourth-most-visited library. Shrine Of Remembrance
The Shrine of Remembrance (commonly referred to as The Shrine) is a war memorial in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, located in Kings Domain on St Kilda Road. It was built to honour the men and women of Victoria who served in World War I, but now functions as a memorial to all Australians who have served in any war. It is a site of annual observances for Anzac Day (25 April) and Remembrance Day (11 November), and is one of the largest war memorials in Australia. Designed by architects Phillip Hudson and James Wardrop, both World War I veterans, the Shrine is in classical style, based on the Tomb of Mausolus at Halicarnassus and the Parthenon in Athens, Greece. The crowning element at the top of the ziggurat roof references the Choragic Monument of Lysicrates. Built from Tynong granite, the Shrine originally consisted only of the central sanctuary surrounded by the ambulatory.
