Neumark (region)
The Neumark (), also known as the New March ( pl, Nowa Marchia) or as East Brandenburg (), was a region of the Margraviate of Brandenburg and its successors located east of the Oder River in territory which became part of Poland in 1945. Called the Lubusz Land while part of medieval Poland, the territory later known as the Neumark gradually became part of the German Margraviate of Brandenburg from the mid-13th century. As Brandenburg-Küstrin the Neumark formed an independent state of the Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation from 1535 to 1571; after the death of the margrave John, a younger son of Joachim I Nestor, Elector of Brandenburg, it returned to Elector John George, the margrave's nephew and Joachim I Nestor's grandson. With the rest of the Electorate of Brandenburg, it became part of the Kingdom of Prussia in 1701 and part of the German Empire in 1871 when each of those states first formed. Strzelce Krajeńskie
Strzelce Krajeńskie (german: Friedeberg in der Neumark) is a town in western Poland, in the Lubusz Voivodeship. It is the capital of the Strzelce-Drezdenko County. The town's population is 9,950 (2019). History In 1254, Margrave Conrad of Brandenburg-Stendal received the Santok castellan from Duke Przemysł I of Greater Poland as a dowry when he married his daughter. In a strategically favorable location, east of the town of Landsberg, Konrad built a castle in a Slavic village of unknown name. In 1269, the village came under German municipal law. The castle was destroyed by Przemysł I in 1272. Before 1286, the Margrave gave the newly created town Magdeburg rights under the name ''Friedeberg'', probably derived from the Friedeberg family from the Saalkreis, who were part of his entourage. Recz
Recz (german: Reetz) is a town in Choszczno County, West Pomeranian Voivodeship, Poland, with a population of 3,001 as of 2004. History In 1373 Recz became part of the Lands of the Bohemian Crown (or ''Czech Lands''), ruled by the Luxembourg dynasty. In 1402, the Luxembourgs reached an agreement with Poland in Kraków. Poland was to buy and re-incorporate Recz and its surroundings, but eventually the Luxembourgs sold the town to the Teutonic Order, whose rule lasted until 1454. During the Polish-Swedish War, in 1657 the town was captured by Poles. From the 18th century it was part of the Kingdom of Prussia and subsequently in 1871 it became part of Germany. After the defeat of Nazi Germany in 1945, it became part of Poland. Neuwedell
Drawno (german: Neuwedell; csb, Nowi Wedel) is a town in Choszczno County, West Pomeranian Voivodeship, Poland, with 2,219 inhabitants as of December 2021. The headquarters of the Drawa National Park (''Drawieński Park Narodowy'') are located here. History In the 10th-11th centuries, using the suitable location between two lakes, a Slavic gród and a fishing village were established here. The settlement was a part of Poland during the reign of the first Polish rulers Mieszko I and Bolesław I the Brave. Dębno
Dębno (german: Neudamm) is a town in Myślibórz County, West Pomeranian Voivodeship in western Poland. As of December 2021, the town has a population of 13,443. After the Migration Period, the area was populated by West Slavic peoples since the 6th century. Later, it was invaded by Saxons immediately after the invasion and annexation of the Catholic Duchy of Kopanica. The castle of Dębno belonged to the House of Odrowąż. Dębno is known for hosting the oldest marathon in Poland (since 1969), one of the five marathons included in the Crown of Polish Marathons, along with marathons in Kraków, Poznań, Warsaw and Wrocław. Moryń
Moryń (german: Mohrin; csb, Mòrzëno) is a town in Gryfino County, West Pomeranian Voivodeship, in northwestern Poland. Geography Historically it is located in the border area between medieval Greater Poland and Pomerania, which in the Late Middle Ages was annexed into the Neumark (''Nowa Marchia'') region, and was located in its northern part in the next centuries. Moryń is located on the Słubia creek, a right tributary of the Oder River. History The area was already inhabited in the Stone Age. Gorzów Wielkopolski (; german: Landsberg an der Warthe) often abbreviated to Gorzów Wlkp. or simply Gorzów, is a city in western Poland, on the Warta river. Lubniewice
Lubniewice (german: Königswalde) is a small town in Sulęcin County, Lubusz Voivodeship, western Poland, with 2,059 inhabitants (2019). It is the administrative seat of Gmina Lubniewice. History Middle Ages The area formed part of Poland since the establishment of the state in the 10th century. As a result of the fragmentation of Poland, it became part of the Greater Poland province. The first mentioning of the fortress ''Lubnewiz'' (Old Polish version of the town's name) dates back to the Greater Polish duke, and future King of Poland, Przemysł II in 1287.
