This is a list of ultra prominent peaks (with topographic prominence greater than 1,500 metres) in the Malay Archipelago, a group of over 25,000 islands which includes Brunei, Singapore, East Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines and East Timor. However, this list excludes ultras in the Philippines which are listed separately. Ultra Prominent Peak
An ultra-prominent peak, or Ultra for short, is a mountain summit with a topographic prominence of or more; it is also called a P1500. The prominence of a peak is the minimum height of climb to the summit on any route from a higher peak, or from sea level if there is no higher peak. There are approximately 1,524 such peaks on Earth. Some well-known peaks, such as the Matterhorn and Eiger, are not Ultras because they are connected to higher mountains by high cols and therefore do not achieve enough topographic prominence. The term "Ultra" originated with earth scientist Steve Fry, from his studies of the prominence of peaks in Washington in the 1980s. His original term was "ultra major mountain", referring to peaks with at least of prominence. Mount Slamet
Mount Slamet or Gunung Slamet is an active stratovolcano in the Purbalingga Regency of Central Java, Indonesia. It has a cluster of around three dozen cinder cones on the lower southeast-northeast flanks and a single cinder cone on the western flank. The volcano is composed of two overlapping edifices. Four craters are found at the summit. Historical eruptions have been recorded since the eighteenth century., with its most recent events being in 2009 and 2014. Its summit is Central Java's highest point. Eruptions September 2014 Mount Slamet erupted again Wednesday, September 18, 2014 after four years of remaining quiet. The volcano, dormant since 2009, began erupting again in late August 2014 prompting authorities to raise alert levels in the area. While the eruption was not considered to be a large one, a nearby forest was razed and authorities have blocked off a 2.5 mile radius in case of increased activity. Semeru
The Semeru ( jv, ꦱꦼꦩꦺꦫꦸ), or Mount Semeru ( jv, ꦒꦸꦤꦸꦁꦱꦼꦩꦺꦫꦸ (Pegon:, Gunung Semeru), is an active volcano located in East Java, Indonesia. It is located in a subduction zone, where the Indo-Australian plate subducts under the Eurasia plate. It is the highest mountain on the island of Java. The name "Semeru" is derived from Meru, the central world mountain in Hinduism, or Sumeru, the abode of gods. This stratovolcano is also known as Mahameru, meaning "The Great Mountain" in Sanskrit. It is one of the more popular hiking destinations in Indonesia. Geology Semeru rises steeply above the coastal plains of eastern Java. Bukit Daun (, means: ''Leaves Hill'') is a stratovolcano, located in a sparsely populated region in Sumatra, Indonesia. A 600 m wide of crater lake is located at the summit. Geureudong
Geureudong or Bur ni Geureudong or Bur ni Telong is a stratovolcanic complex in northern Sumatra, Indonesia. The official name of the whole complex is confusing between the two adjacent volcanoes: Bur ni Geureudong and Bur ni Telong. Two other volcanic cones are Salah Nama and Pepanji, and there are small sediment hills. Bur ni Geureudong has been eroded since the Pleistocene age, but has solfatara and hot springs on its flanks. Bur ni Telong is located in the south of Bur ni Geureudong. Bur ni Telong has active crater that lava flows are exposed in the southern flank. Seulawah Agam
Seulawah Agam is an extensive forested stratovolcano located at the northwestern tip of Sumatra. Several names have been given to the mountain: Seulawaih Agam, Seulawain Agam, Solawa Agam, Solawaik Agam, Selawadjanten and Goldberg. The volcano was formed during the Pleistocene-Holocene age. The mountain has a large caldera, called Lam Teuba. A smaller 8×6 km caldera is within the Lam Teuba caldera. The volcano contains several hills: sedimentary hills, old volcano hills, a volcanic cone and peneplain area. The volcanic cone was formed by lava and pyroclastic flows. There are three craters. The Tanah Cempago crater is easily recognized, while the other two are covered with vegetation. As of January 2013, Seulawah Agam is showing signs of renewed activity. Mount Patah
Mount Patah (, means: ''Broken Mountain'') is the highest mountain in the Indonesian province of Bengkulu, it is a heavily forested quaternary age volcano southeast of Mount Dempo on Sumatra island, Indonesia. On 1 May 1989, a fumarole activity was observed by a pilot near the summit. The exact location of the crater, the date of its formation and its geologic relationship is uncertain. Mount Patah is in a protected forest area RajaMandara, with a total area of 42.567 hectares.
