List Of Ohio State Highways
The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) is responsible for the establishment and classification of a state highway network which includes interstate highways, U.S. highways, and state routes. As with other states, U.S. and Interstate highways are classified as state routes in Ohio. There are no state routes which duplicate an existing U.S. or Interstate highway in Ohio. Ohio distinguishes between "state routes", which are all the routes on ODOT's system, and "state highways", which are the roads on the state route system which ODOT maintains, i.e. those outside municipalities, with a special provision for Interstate Highways. Besides the state highway network, there are various county and township road networks within the state. I-71
Interstate 71 (I-71) is a north–south Interstate Highway in the Great Lakes/Midwestern and Southeastern region of the United States. Its southern terminus is at an interchange with I-64 and I-65 (the Kennedy Interchange) in Louisville, Kentucky, and its northern terminus at an interchange with I-90 in Cleveland, Ohio. I-71 runs concurrently with I-75 from a point about south of Cincinnati, Ohio, into Downtown Cincinnati. While most odd numbered Interstates are north–south, I-71 however is designated more of a northeast–southwest highway, with some east–west sections, and is mainly a regional route, serving Kentucky and Ohio. It links I-80 and I-90 to I-70, and ultimately (via I-65) links to I-40. Major metropolitan areas served by I-71 include Louisville, Cincinnati, Columbus, and Cleveland. 1927 Ohio State Highway Renumbering
In early July 1927, the Ohio Department of Highways implemented the system of United States Numbered Highways that had been approved by the states in late 1926. This resulted in the renumbering of many of the state highways to avoid overlaps with the new U.S. Routes and numbers used by both classes of route. In addition to the U.S. Routes, a new State Route 6 was formed, extending West Virginia Route 6 northwest from the Ohio River at Bridgeport to Norwalk. (Route 6 later became U.S. Route 250 in both states.) A number of State Routes - 1, 10, 13, 15, 16, 31, 49, 95, 112, 124, 130, 160, 180 , and 223 - were entirely replaced by U.S. Routes or the new State Route 6. The numbers 6, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 27, 30, 40, 42, 50, 52, and 127 conflicted with new designations, so the State Routes with those numbers were renamed. Interstate 90 In Ohio
Interstate 90 (I-90) runs east–west across the northern tier of the US state of Ohio. Much of it is along the Ohio Turnpike, but sections outside the turnpike pass through Cleveland and northeast into Pennsylvania. The entire free section of I-90 in Ohio is called the "AMVETS Highway". Selected stretches are named for various individuals. In Greater Cleveland, portions of I-90 carry various names, such as the Innerbelt Freeway, Cleveland Memorial Shoreway, Lakeland Freeway, and Euclid Spur. Ohio Turnpike
The Ohio Turnpike, officially the James W. Shocknessy Ohio Turnpike, is a limited-access toll highway in the U.S. state of Ohio, serving as a primary corridor between Chicago and Pittsburgh. The road runs east–west in the northern section of the state, with the western end at the Indiana–Ohio border near Edon where it meets the Indiana Toll Road, and the eastern end at the Ohio–Pennsylvania border near Petersburg, where it meets the Pennsylvania Turnpike. The road is owned and maintained by the Ohio Turnpike and Infrastructure Commission (OTIC), headquartered in Berea. Built from 1949 to 1955, construction for the roadway was completed a year prior to the Interstate Highway System. 1962 Ohio State Highway Renumbering
In 1962, the Ohio Department of Highways implemented the system of Interstate Highways that had been approved by the states in 1956. The State Route numbers 70, 71, 74, 75, 77, 80, 90, 270, 271, 275, 277, 280, 290, 675, and 680 conflicted with new designations, so the State Routes with those numbers were renumbered. However, there is no Interstate 290 in Ohio anymore, so 290 is a possible state route number again.
