Iran
Iran, officially the Islamic Republic of Iran, and also called Persia, is a country located in Western Asia. Mir Emad Hassani
Mir Emad (born Emad al-Molk Qazvini Hasani ( fa, ), 1554 – August 15, 1615) is perhaps the most celebrated Persian calligrapher. He was born in Qazvin, Iran. It is believed that the Nastaʿlīq style reached its highest elegance in Mir Emad's works. These are amongst the finest specimens of Nastaʿlīq calligraphy and are kept in several museums in the world. Early life and education Mir Emad was born in Qazvin, where he had his early education. Mir Emad's family had librarian and accountant positions in Safavid court. He was trained in calligraphy at first by Isa Rangkar and then Malek Deylami. Mir Emad later on moved to Tabriz to study with Mohammad Hossein Tabrizi. Afterward, he traveled to Ottoman Turkey, Baghdad, Halab and Hijaz. He returned to Semnan and worked as a scribe in Shah Abbas's library and later on his court in the capital of Isfahan. Abolhassan Etessami
Abolhassan Etessami (1903–1978), was an Iranian architect, calligrapher, painter, and novelist. Biography His father Mīrzā Ebrāhīm Khan Mostawfī Eʿteṣām-al-Molk (or Ebrahim Etessami) was from Ashtian and the head of finance of the Iranian province of Azerbaijan. His brother Yussef Etessami was the founder of the ''Bahar'' journal, and the father of the poet Parvin Etessami. Abolhassan Etessami was educated in Tehran at the Aghdasieh School, the American School, and the Kamal-ol-molk School of Fine Arts. Then he spent some years in Isfahan to learn architecture and decoration techniques, and later went to work at Tehran University. Etessami produced a series of architecture projects, detailed maquettes of which were made by himself. Gholam Hossein Amirkhani
Gholam Hossein Amirkhani (استاد غلامحسین امیرخانی) is a Persian calligrapher, born in 1939 in Taleghan, Iran. He is the chief of Iran calligraphers council, which established in 1950. He became a member of the Iran Calligraphers Association in 1965 and was named as the master of Iranian calligraphy in 1979. In 2014, he held his first solo exhibition in 15 years, showing his latest works in Tehran's Sareban Gallery. Akbar Ganji
Akbar Ganji ( fa, اکبر گنجی , born 31 January 1960 in Tehran) is an Iranian journalist, writer and a former member of Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. He has been described as "Iran's preeminent political dissident", and a "wildly popular pro-democracy journalist" who has crossed press censorship "red lines" regularly. A supporter of the Islamic revolution as a youth, he became disenchanted in the mid-1990s and served time in Tehran's Evin Prison from 2001 to 2006, after publishing a series of stories on the murder of dissident authors known as the Chain Murders of Iran. Shirin Ebadi
Shirin Ebadi ( fa, شيرين عبادى, Širin Ebādi; born 21 June 1947) is an Iranian political activist, lawyer, a former judge and human rights activist and founder of Defenders of Human Rights Center in Iran. On 10 October 2003, Ebadi was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for her significant and pioneering efforts for democracy and human rights, especially women's, children's, and refugee rights. She has lived in exile in London since 2009. Life and early career as a judge Ebadi was born in Hamadan. Daryush Shokof (Persian: داریوش شکوف, born 1954) is an Iranian artist, film director, writer, and film producer based in Germany. Biography He was born as Ali Reza Shokoufandeh on 25 June 1954 in Tehran, Imperial State of Iran. Shokof graduated from Eastern New Mexico University with a degree in Physics and Mathematics. Shokof received an MBA from University of Dallas in Texas.
