List Of Indonesian Regencies By Population
Indonesia's thirty-four provinces (including five with special status) are divided into 514 second-level administrative divisions (''daerah tingkat II'') - comprising 416 regencies (''kabupaten'' in Indonesian) and 98 cities (''kota'') which are independent of the regencies in which they are geographically situated. As at the 2020 Census, these 514 second-level entitles are together sub-divided into 7,230 administrative districts (''kecamatan''). Since 2013, there has been a moratorium on the creation of additional provinces, regencies and independent cities, although proposals for new provinces and second-level divisions have been debated by the Indonesian parliament. This is a list of the most populous cities in Indonesia. It excludes urban-characterized settlements such as regency seats, which does not have city status. Indonesia has 93 cities classified as ''kota'' (city) and one provincial-level capital city. Population figures are taken from the 2020 census by Statistics Indonesia (BPS). Jakarta is the largest city and the only megacity in Indonesia, with a population of 10.56 million. As a primate city, Jakarta is nearly four times larger than the second largest city Surabaya. Jakarta's status is unique compared to other cities in Indonesia, since it is technically a province with a city management. It is subdividied into five administrative cities, which are not self-governed (without municipal council nor government budget). Jember Regency
Jember Regency is a regency of East Java province, Indonesia. The population was 2,332,726 at the 2010 census and 2,536,729 at the 2020 Census. Its administrative capital is the urban area of Jember, which with 359,184 inhabitants in 2020 is the third largest urban area in East Java province (after Surabaya and Malang) but does not have municipality or city status as it is split between three separate districts. Jember is famous for its tobacco farms and traditional food called tape which is made of fermented cassava. Geography Jember Regency has a total area of 3,306.69 km2. It shares its borders with the regencies of Lumajang (to the west), Probolinggo, Bondowoso and Situbondo (to the north), and Banyuwangi (to the east). Banyumas Regency
Banyumas ( jv, ꦧꦚꦸꦩꦱ꧀, formerly spelt "Banjoemas") Regency is a regency ( id, kabupaten) in the southwestern part of Central Java province in Indonesia. Its capital is the town of Purwokerto, but that town no longer has a central administration and is split over four of the districts within the Regency, with a combined population of 230,235 as at mid 2021. The Regency covers an area of 1,327.59 km2, and had a population of 1,554,527 at the 2010 Census and 1,776,918 at the 2020 Census; the official estimate of population as at mid 2021 was 1,789,630. West Bandung Regency
West Bandung Regency (''Kabupaten Bandung Barat'') is a landlocked regency of West Java. It was established in 2007, formerly it was part of Bandung Regency. The capital of this new regency is Ngamprah, an industrial district on the west side of Bandung. It is part of the Bandung Metropolitan Area. The area of the regency is 1,305.77 km2 and the population was 1,506,448 at the 2010 Census and 1,788,336 at the 2020 Census. The official estimate as at mid 2021 was 1,814,226. Deli Serdang Regency
Deli Serdang ( id, Kabupaten Deli Serdang; Jawi: دلي سردڠ) is a regency in the Indonesian province of North Sumatra. It surrounds the city of Medan, and also borders the city of Binjai, which is effectively a bedroom community for Medan. It occupies an area of 2,497.72 sq.km (964.38 sq miles).
