Lerici-class Minehunter
The ''Lerici'' class is a class of minehunters constructed by Intermarine SpA and owned and operated by the Italian Navy. The class incorporates two subclasses: the first four ships are referred to specifically as the first series of the ''Lerici'' class, while eight more ships produced to a slightly modified design are known as "second series ''Lerici''s" or as the ''Gaeta'' class. The class design has also been used as the basis for ships of the Royal Malaysian Navy (as the ''Mahamiru'' class), the Nigerian Navy, the United States Navy (as the ), the Royal Australian Navy (as the ), and the Royal Thai Navy (as the ''Lat Ya'' class). The Hellenic Navy (HN; el, Πολεμικό Ναυτικό, Polemikó Naftikó, War Navy, abbreviated ΠΝ) is the naval force of Greece, part of the Hellenic Armed Forces. Voith Schneider Propeller
The Voith Schneider Propeller (VSP) is a specialized marine propulsion system (MPS) manufactured by the Voith Group based on a cyclorotor design. It is highly maneuverable, being able to change the direction of its thrust almost instantaneously. It is widely used on tugs and ferries. Operation From a circular plate, rotating around a vertical axis, a circular array of vertical blades (in the shape of hydrofoils) protrude out of the bottom of the ship. Each blade can rotate itself around a vertical axis. The internal gear changes the angle of attack of the blades in sync with the rotation of the plate, so that each blade can provide thrust in any direction. Avondale Shipyard was an independent shipbuilding company, acquired by Litton Industries, in turn acquired by Northrop Grumman Corporation. In 2011, along with the former Ingalls Shipbuilding, the yard was part of Huntington Ingalls Industries. It closed in October 2014. Intermarine
Intermarine is an Italian shipbuilding company, owned by the Rodriquez Cantieri Navali Group. Company Founded in 1970, Intermarine has specialized in building boats and ships with fibre-reinforced plastic hulls. In September 2002, the company was acquired by Rodriquez Cantieri Navali, a shipbuilder focusing on high-speed vessels. This led to Intermarine introducing ships built out of steel and aluminum, using technology from their parent company. Rodriquez owns four shipyards on the west coast of Italy, all of which Intermarine has access to for production.
