Laidley is a rural town and locality in the Lockyer Valley Region, Queensland, Australia. In the , the locality of Laidley had a population of 3,808 people. Geography Laidley is situated within the Lockyer Valley of South East Queensland east of the Great Dividing Range and close to the northern foothills of the Main Range. The town is located west of Brisbane, the state capital, and east of Toowoomba. The Warrego Highway (A2) is around 10 km to the north, and the town sits on the Brisbane–Charleville railway line. Laidley lies within the Lockyer Creek catchment, with the creek rising at the eastern slopes of the Great Dividing Range and flowing east. The catchment has an area of approximately 3,000 km² and elevations range from 1,100m AHD on the Great Dividing Range to 24m AHD at the confluence with the Brisbane River. It is the principal station on the City network and is located in the north of the Brisbane central business district. Central station is one of four inner city stations that form a core corridor through the centre of Brisbane. History The first building for Central railway station was a structure of wood and corrugated galvanised iron, and opened on 18 August 1889 as the terminus of the line when it was extended from Roma Street railway station. In 1891, the tunnel to Brunswick Street station (now Fortitude Valley) was opened so trains could run directly from Central to northern destinations. The Main Line is a railway line in South East Queensland, Australia. It was opened in a series of sections between 1865 and 1867. It commences at Roma St Station in Brisbane and extends west 161 km to Toowoomba. It is the first narrow gauge main line constructed in the world. The Westlander
''The Westlander'' is an Australian passenger train operated by Queensland Rail on the Main and Western lines between Brisbane and the outback town of Charleville. Background In the 1888 timetable the train from Brisbane to Roma was officially called the ''Western Mail'', with some runs extended through to Morven. With the opening of the line from Morven to Charleville on 1 March 1888 the train was again extended. Victorian Railways introduced air-conditioned trains in 1935, and Queensland Rail decided to follow suit in the late 1940s. Steel carriages were designed to travel to all parts of the system, meaning a maximum axle load of 9 tons, which was a challenge for the dining cars. New features included showers in the sleeping cars, roomettes in first class and head end power cars, especially necessary where trains may be delayed by floods or other events, as was often the case. Charleville railway station is a heritage-listed railway station on the Western line at King Street, Charleville, Shire of Murweh, Queensland, Australia. It was built from 1888 to 1957. History The Pulitano Group was formed in 2003 when the various bus interests of the Pulitano family were combined. In Victoria the Pulitanos operated Australian Coach Travel, Cranbourne Transit, Mansfield-Mount Buller Bus Lines, Northern Bus Lines and US Bus Lines, and in Queensland Park Ridge Transit and Westside Bus Company.
