Low-frequency Oscillation
Low-frequency oscillation (LFO) is an electronic frequency that is usually below 20 Hz and creates a rhythmic pulse or sweep. This is used to modulate musical equipment such as synthesizers to create audio effects such as vibrato, tremolo and phasing. History Low-frequency oscillation was introduced with modular synthesizers of the 1960s, such as the Moog synthesizer. Often the LFO effect was accidental, as there were myriad configurations that could be "patched" by the synth operator. LFOs have since appeared in some form on almost every synthesizer. More recently other electronic musical instruments, such as samplers and software synthesizers, have included LFOs to increase their sound alteration capabilities. LFO (British Band)
LFO was a British electronic music act formed in 1988 consisting of Mark Bell and Gez Varley. They released their acclaimed debut LP ''Frequencies'' in 1991 on Sheffield label Warp. After Varley left the group in 1996, Bell continued solo to release ''Advance'' (1996) and '' Sheath'' (2003). Bell died in October 2014, effectively ending the project. LFO are considered to be pioneers of the bass-heavy " bleep techno" style. AllMusic called them "one of British techno's most important, agenda-setting groups." History Early years Varley and Bell met while studying at Leeds and named their group after the initialism for the common synthesizer function low-frequency oscillation. ''Frequencies'' is the debut studio album by British electronic music duo LFO, released on 22 July 1991 by Warp. It peaked at No. 42 on the UK Albums Chart and was released to universal acclaim. Background Warp originally signed LFO in 1990 after DJ Martin played their tracks at Leeds Warehouse. The duo were both 19 years old when they recorded their debut LP. According to Mark Bell, most of the album was made by him alone because Varley felt "trapped by the confines of Warp" and wanted to make more direct dance music; the credits were nonetheless split 50/50. Release ''Frequencies'' was originally released by Warp in the United Kingdom, while it was later released by Tommy Boy Records in the United States. The US edition of the album alters the track listing slightly, inserting "Track 14", which concludes the UK edition, in between "We Are Back" and "Tan Ta Ra"; the rest of the tracks then proceed in the same order as the UK edition. LFO (an acronym for Lyte Funkie Ones) were an American pop and hip hop band consisting of singers Devin Lima (born Harold Lima; March 18, 1977 – November 21, 2018), Brad Fischetti (born September 11, 1975), and Rich Cronin (August 30, 1974 – September 8, 2010). Before Lima joined the group in 1999, the third member was Brian Gillis (known as "Brizz"), who was with the group from its start in 1995; the group disbanded after Cronin's death in 2010 but briefly reunited (with Fischetti and Lima as a duo) in 2017 before Lima's own death a year later. Their single "Summer Girls" reached number 3 on the ''Billboard'' charts, and the band has sold over four million records worldwide. ''LFO'' is a 2013 Swedish science fiction film directed and written by Antonio Tublén about a man who realizes that he can hypnotize with sound. He starts experimenting on his neighbors, where the abuse of power takes over and, eventually, severe consequences for mankind are at stake. Plot Robert Nord, an awkward man, spends most of his time playing with his synthesizers in his basement. After he has an argument with his wife Clara, whom he suspects is cheating on him, he returns to the basement again, to her annoyance. There, over the Internet, he discusses with several of his friends his belief that he has what he calls a "sound allergy" to the music that his wife enjoys. ''Little Fighter Online'' (LFO, Chinese: 小朋友齊打交 Online) was a fighting game for Microsoft Windows. It was popular at launch in Hong Kong, but has shown a rapid decline in popularity since. The gameplay itself was based on the earlier Little Fighter 2 game, which shares many of the same features. The game was produced by Marti Wong (involved in all the '' Little Fighter'' games) and Oscar Chu, a Chinese MMO developer. In 2021, an unofficial English version was created. The version allows to replay the entire Story of the Little Fighters in English. Servers ''Little Fighter Online'' (also known as ''LFO'') was launched and developed by U1 Game and played on several servers. The London Festival Orchestra (LFO) was established in the 1950s as the 'house orchestra' for Decca Records. In 1980 it was incorporated as an independent performing orchestra under Ross Pople. At least in the world of pop music, the orchestra is best known for providing accompaniment to the Moody Blues for their landmark 1967 album ''Days of Future Passed''. Lakeview Fort Oglethorpe High School (LFO) is a public high school located in Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia. It is one of three high schools in Catoosa County, and is operated by the Catoosa County Schools district. The school's teams are known as the Warriors. Lakeview Fort Oglethorpe High School is currently in Region 6-AAA of the Georgia High School Association. Prior to 1915, the children of this community were either taught at home, or at the Old Chambers Homeplace. The Laboratory for Fractionation of Plasma scandal (also known as ''LFO scandal'' or ''LFO affair'') is a phrase used to describe events connected to the investigation which started in 1995 about an investment to build a Laboratory for Franctionation of Plasma in Mielec, Poland. The laboratory was never built. In 2001 the Public Prosecutor's Office of Tarnobrzeg started a criminal investigation in the case of extortion of money to obtain credit to build the laboratory. Investment The investment was supposed to create a facility for fractionation of blood plasma and production of different blood-related medical products. The investment was meant to be lucrative. It appeared also that it would materialize WHO order to become independent in production of blood related products. LFO was chosen as the company which would build such a manufacturing plant.
