''Love's Easy Tears'' is an EP by Scottish dream pop band Cocteau Twins. It was released by 4AD in September 1986 as a 12" single, and was later re-released as a CD single with a fourth track, ''Orange Appled'', included. Cocteau Twins
Cocteau Twins was a Scottish rock band active from 1979 to 1997. They were formed in Grangemouth by Robin Guthrie (guitars, drum machine) and Will Heggie (bass), adding Elizabeth Fraser (vocals) in 1981 and replacing Heggie with multi-instrumentalist Simon Raymonde in 1983. The group earned critical praise for their ethereal, effects-laden sound and the soprano vocals of Fraser, whose lyrics often eschew any recognisable language. They pioneered the 1980s alternative subgenre of dream pop. After signing with the British record label 4AD in 1982, they released their debut album '' Garlands'' later that year. Good Earth Studios
Dean Street Studios is a commercial recording studio located at 59 Dean Street, Soho, London, England. History The premises are first known to have been used as a film studio in 1950s, which then became Zodiac Studios. The studio was bought by producer Tony Visconti in 1977 and operated for 13 years under the new name Good Earth Studios, with Paul Cartledge taking the role of a studio manager. Here Visconti recorded and produced such famous acts as T. Rex, David Bowie, Phil Lynott and Thin Lizzy. In 1989, Joe & Co bought the lease and expanded into the rest of the basement, by building a few more music recording/production suites. Jasmin Lee, the daughter of Alvin Lee from Ten Years After, took over the business in 2007 and re-launched it as Dean Street Studios, in partnership with the studio head engineer and director Ben Roulston. Dream Pop
Dream pop (also typeset as dreampop) is a subgenre of alternative rock and neo-psychedelia that emphasizes atmosphere and sonic texture as much as pop melody. Common characteristics include breathy vocals, dense productions, and effects such as reverb, echo, tremolo, and chorus. It often overlaps with the related genre of shoegaze, and the two genre terms have at times been used interchangeably. The genre came into prominence in the 1980s through the work of groups such as Cocteau Twins and A.R. Kane. Subsequently, acts such as My Bloody Valentine, Slowdive, Galaxie 500, Julee Cruise, Lush, and Mazzy Star released significant albums in the style. It saw renewed popularity among millennial listeners following the late-'00s success of Beach House. ''Victorialand'' is the fourth studio album by Scottish alternative rock band Cocteau Twins, released by 4AD in 1986. Working without bassist Simon Raymonde, vocalist Elizabeth Fraser and guitarist/producer Robin Guthrie opted for a subtler sound on the album. Background ''Victorialand'' was recorded without bassist Simon Raymonde, who had been enlisted to collaborate on the second This Mortal Coil album '' Filigree & Shadow'' (1986). The duo of Guthrie and Fraser opted for a subtler sound which dispensed with most percussion and bass, instead consisting primarily of Guthrie's "delicate guitar filigrees and lush, produced textures." As is often the case with Fraser's vocals, the lyrics are indecipherable. For example, Fraser took a passage from a non-English language book to write the lyrics for “Whales Tails”, not knowing what the words meant. ''The Moon and the Melodies'' is a collaborative studio album by Scottish dream pop band Cocteau Twins and the American minimalist composer Harold Budd. It was released 10 November 1986 by 4AD. The name "Cocteau Twins" did not appear on the release, which instead credited the band's three members (Elizabeth Fraser, Robin Guthrie and Simon Raymonde) and Budd individually. A version of the track "Memory Gongs" was released on Budd's '' Lovely Thunder'' as "Flowered Knife Shadows", dedicated to Raymonde. The phrases "bloody and blunt" and "ooze out and away, onehow" came from Fraser's lyrics on the songs "The Tinderbox (Of a Heart)" and "My Love Paramour", both from the 1983 Cocteau Twins album '' Head Over Heels''. 4AD is a British record label owned by Beggars Group. It was founded in London under the name "Axis" (after the Hendrix album) by Ivo Watts-Russell and Peter Kent in 1980 as an imprint of Beggars Banquet Records. The name was changed to 4AD after the release of the label's first four singles. Later that year, Watts-Russell and Kent purchased the label from Beggars Banquet to become an independent record label, and Kent sold his share to Watts-Russell a year later. ''Snow'' is a 1993 EP by Scottish band Cocteau Twins, released in December 1993 on Fontana Records. It contains cover versions of the Christmas standards "Frosty the Snowman" and "Winter Wonderland". It is out of print, though its tracks appear on the compilation ''Lullabies to Violaine''. Background ''Snow'' was released in extremely limited quantities; one expert suggested that fewer than 5,000 copies were made. One of the songs on the album, "Frosty the Snowman," was recorded more than a year before ''Snows release, for an album to accompany a year-end issue of ''Volume''. Robin Guthrie was reluctant to record Christmas songs, so the group opted to record non-specific winter songs instead. Critical reception ''Snow'' received fairly positive reviews from contemporary music critics despite its limited release. ''The Michigan Daily'' is the weekly student newspaper of the University of Michigan. Its first edition was published on September 29, 1890. The newspaper is financially and editorially independent of the University's administration and other student groups, but shares a university building with other student publications on 420 Maynard Street, north of the Michigan Union and Huetwell Student Activities Center. In 2007, renovations to the historic building at 420 Maynard were completed, funded entirely by private donations from alumni. To dedicate the renovated building, a reunion of the staffs of ''The Michigan Daily'', the '' Michiganensian'' yearbook, and the ''Gargoyle'' ''Humor Magazine'' was held on October 26–28, 2007.
