1955 Louisiana Highway Renumbering
In 1955, Louisiana passed a law that undertook a comprehensive revision to the state highway classification and numbering system. The new system designated roads by importance to travel patterns and rectified the previous numbering system under new unified designations. History Highway numbers in Louisiana first appeared in 1921, per Act 95 of the 1921 Special Session of the Louisiana Legislature. Routes 1 through 98 were defined that year. These first 98 routes remained consistent throughout the pre-1955 era. Arkansas Highway 29
Arkansas Highway 29 (AR 29) is a designation for two state highways in South Arkansas. One segment of runs from the Louisiana state line north to Highway 19 north of Prescott. A second segment of runs from Highway 19 south of Antoine north to Highway 26 in Antoine. Route description Louisiana to Prescott Highway 29 begins at the Louisiana state line as a continuation of Louisiana Highway 3 and runs north parallel to the Union Pacific tracks, intersecting Highway 160 in Bradley and U.S. Route 82 (US 82) in Lewisville. The route runs for in Lafayette County before continuing north into Hempstead County. The route has multiple important junctions in Hope. Texas State Highway 63
State Highway 63 (SH 63) is a highway in east Texas that runs from Zavalla through Jasper, continuing east to the Louisiana state line. The route is proposed to become an extension of I-14 in the future. History The highway was originally designated on August 21, 1923 along the easternmost branch of previously numbered SH 7 from Zavalla southeast to Bon Wier. On September 26, 1939, the section from Jasper to Bon Wier was transferred to U.S. Highway 190 (the original plan was for the remaining section from Lufkin to Jasper to be US 287 Alternate, but that designation was rejected), while SH 63 was rerouted northeast to the Louisiana state line via Burkeville, replacing part of SH 45 (this was proposed as SH 296). History The site where Many currently sits was originally a Belgian settlement believed to be founded in 1837. The Town of Many was officially founded March 21, 1843, when the Louisiana Legislature passed Act 46. The act split Natchitoches Parish into several new parishes, including Sabine Parish. Texas State Highway 21
State Highway 21 (SH 21) runs from the Texas-Louisiana boundary east of San Augustine to San Marcos in east and central Texas. SH 21 mostly follows the alignment of the Old San Antonio Road and the El Camino Real, except for the portion between Midway and Bryan, where the Old San Antonio Road took a more northerly route, and SH 21 follows a more direct route. That section of the Old San Antonio Road is served by Texas State Highway OSR. Logansport is a town in western DeSoto Parish adjacent to the Sabine River in western Louisiana, United States. The population was 1,340 in 2020. It is part of the Shreveport– Bossier City metropolitan statistical area. History The area, long a disputed boundary even after the Louisiana Purchase, was part of a neutral territory negotiated by Gen. James Wilkinson and Lt. Col. Simón de Herrera on November 6, 1806.
