Louisiana's 24th State Senate district is one of 39 districts in the Louisiana State Senate. It has been represented by Democrat Gerald Boudreaux since 2016, succeeding Democrat-turned-Republican Elbert Guillory. Geography District 24 stretches across several majority-black sections of Lafayette, St. Landry, and St. Martin Parishes in Acadiana, including northern Lafayette and some or all of Carencro, Scott, Sunset, Opelousas, Eunice, and Port Barre. The district overlaps with Louisiana's 3rd, 4th, and 5th congressional districts, and with the 38th, 39th, 40th, 41st, 44th, 46th, and 96th districts of the Louisiana House of Representatives. Louisiana's 5th Congressional District
Louisiana's 5th congressional district is a congressional district in the U.S. state of Louisiana. The 5th district encompasses rural northeastern Louisiana and much of central Louisiana, as well as the northern part of Louisiana's Florida parishes in southeastern Louisiana, taking in Monroe, Alexandria, Opelousas, Amite and Bogalusa. The 2016 United States presidential election in Louisiana was held on Tuesday, November 8, 2016, as part of the 2016 United States presidential election in which all 50 states plus the District of Columbia participated. Louisiana voters chose electors to represent them in the Electoral College via a popular vote, pitting the Republican Party's nominee, businessman Donald Trump, and running mate Indiana Governor Mike Pence against Democratic Party nominee, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and her running mate Virginia Senator Tim Kaine. Louisiana has eight electoral votes in the Electoral College. Trump won the state with 58.09% of the vote, while Clinton received 38.45%. Trump performed slightly better in the state than Mitt Romney in 2012, but also slightly worse than John McCain in 2008. John Bel Edwards
John Bel Edwards (born September 16, 1966) is an American politician and attorney serving as the 56th governor of Louisiana since 2016. A member of the Democratic Party, he previously served as the Democratic leader of the Louisiana House of Representatives for two terms. Edwards was first elected to the Louisiana House in 2007. He defeated Republican U.S. Senator David Vitter in the second round of the 2015 election for governor. Edwards won a second term in 2019, becoming the first Democrat to win reelection as governor of Louisiana since Edwin Edwards (no relation) in 1975. The 2019 Louisiana gubernatorial election was held to elect the governor of Louisiana. Incumbent Democratic Governor John Bel Edwards won re-election to a second term, defeating Republican businessman Eddie Rispone.
