Loris is the common name for the strepsirrhine mammals of the subfamily Lorinae. Loris
Loris is the common name for the strepsirrhine mammals of the subfamily Lorinae (sometimes spelled Lorisinae) in the family Lorisidae. ''Loris'' is one genus in this subfamily and includes the slender lorises, ''Nycticebus'' is the genus containing the slow lorises, and ''Xanthonycticebus'' is the genus name of the pygmy slow loris. Description Lorises are nocturnal and arboreal. They are found in tropical and woodland forests of India, Sri Lanka, and parts of southeast Asia. Their locomotion is a slow and cautious climbing form of quadrupedalism. Some lorises are almost entirely insectivorous, while others also include fruits, gums, leaves, and slugs in their diet. Lorises, like most strepsirrhines, have a special adaptation called a " toothcomb" in their lower front teeth, which they use for grooming their fur and even injecting their venom. Loris Haykasi Tjeknavorian (; ; born 13 October 1937) is an Iranian Armenian composer and conductor. He has appeared internationally as a conductor, serving as the principal conductor of the Armenian Philharmonic Orchestra from 1989 to 1998 and later from 1999 to 2000. As a composer Tjeknavorian has written 6 operas, 5 symphonies, choral works, chamber music, ballet music, piano and vocal works, concerti for piano, violin, guitar, cello and pipa, as well as music for documentary and feature films. Among his best known works are the opera '' Rostam and Sohrab'', based on the story of Rostam and Sohrab from Ferdowsi's ''Shahnameh'', and the ballet ''Simorgh''. After study at the Vienna Music Academy, with Carl Orff at the Salzburg Mozarteum and the University of Michigan, he taught at the Tehran Conservatory. Loris Stecca (born 30 March 1960) is an Italian former world champion boxer. He is the older brother of former featherweight world champion of boxing, Maurizio Stecca. Professional career Stecca held the WBA super bantamweight title for three months in 1984. He defeated Leo Cruz to win the title by twelfth round knockout, then lost it to Victor Callejas by a knockout in round eight at Mario Morales coliseum, then known as Mets Pavilion, Guaynabo, Puerto Rico. Stecca won five fights in a row, all by knockout, putting himself on title contention once again. In a rematch with Callejas, held in November 1985 in Rimini, Italy, however, he lost by a sixth round knockout. Loris Reggiani (born 7 October 1959 in Forlì) is an Italian former Grand Prix motorcycle road racer who competed for the Aprilia factory racing team. His best years were in 1981, when he won two races in the 125 class, finishing the season in second place behind Angel Nieto, and in 1992 in the 250 class, when he again won two races and finishing in second place again, this time to Luca Cadalora. Reggiani was the first rider to win a Grand Prix for the Aprilia factory when he won the 1987 San Marino Grand Prix. In 1994, Reggiani moved up to the 500cc class aboard a new bike from Aprilia with a V-twin, 250cc engine that had been enlarged to 380cc in hopes of taking advantage of the bike's lightweight and agility against their more powerful competition. Loris Francesco Capovilla (14 October 1915 – 26 May 2016) was an Italian Roman Catholic prelate and a cardinal. At his death, he was the oldest living Roman Catholic bishop from Italy and the fourth oldest in the world. At the time of his elevation to the rank of cardinal in 2014, he was the oldest member of the College of Cardinals. He served as the personal secretary to Pope John XXIII from 1958 to 1963. Biography Born in Breno, province of Brescia, he was a partisan during World War II, and initially joined the Italian Communist Party (PCI), leaving it in 1956, and crossing the floor to the Italian Socialist Party (PSI), after the anti-Soviet revolts in Hungary were suppressed by the Soviet Red Army.
