Lord-in-Waiting
Lords-in-waiting (male) or baronesses-in-waiting (female) are peers who hold office in the Royal Household of the sovereign of the United Kingdom. In the official Court Circular they are styled "Lord in Waiting" or "Baroness in Waiting" (without hyphenation). There are two kinds of lord-in-waiting: political appointees by the government of the day who serve as junior government whips in the House of Lords (the senior whips have the positions of Captain of the Honourable Corps of Gentlemen-at-Arms and Captain of the Yeomen of the Guard); and non-political appointments by the monarch (who, if they have a seat in the House of Lords, sit as crossbenchers). Alan Henry Brooke, 3rd Viscount Brookeborough (born 30 June 1952) is a Northern Irish Peerage, peer and landowner. He is one of the 92 hereditary peers who remain in the House of Lords; he sits as a crossbencher. He is the current Lord Lieutenant of Fermanagh. Early life and career Lord Brookeborough was educated at Harrow School, Millfield and at the Royal Agricultural College (now Royal Agricultural University), Cirencester. He joined the British Army in 1971, being commissioned into the 17th/21st Lancers. Ray Edward Harry Collins, Baron Collins of Highbury (born 21 December 1954) is a British politician and trade unionist serving as a Member of the House of Lords since 2011. A member of the Labour Party, he served as General Secretary of the Party from 2008 to 2011. Michael David Katz, Baron Katz, , is a British politician and former national chairman of the Jewish Labour Movement. Katz served as a councillor for Camden London Borough Council from 2010 to 2014. Philip Wilson, Baron Wilson of Sedgefield (born 31 May 1959), is a British Labour Party politician.
