Loaded (The Velvet Underground Album)
''Loaded'' is the fourth studio album by the American Rock music, rock band the Velvet Underground, released on November 15, 1970 by Atlantic Records subsidiary Cotillion Records, Cotillion. It was the final album recorded featuring any of the band's original members; the lead singer and primary songwriter Lou Reed left the band shortly before the album's release, and the guitarist Sterling Morrison and the drummer Maureen Tucker left the band in 1971. For this reason, it is often considered by fans to be the last "true" Velvet Underground album. The multi-instrumentalist Doug Yule remained and released the album ''Squeeze (The Velvet Underground album), Squeeze'' in 1973 before the band's dissolution the same year. Though the album was intended to appease Atlantic's request that the Velvet Underground produce hit songs, none of the singles originating from ''Loaded'' nor ''Loaded'' itself succeeded in entering the charts. The Velvet Underground were an American Rock music, rock band formed in New York City in 1964. Its classic lineup consisted of singer and guitarist Lou Reed, Welsh multi-instrumentalist John Cale, guitarist Sterling Morrison, and percussionist Moe Tucker. Though their integration of rock and the avant-garde earned them little commercial success during their initial nine-year run, they are now widely regarded as one of the most influential bands in rock music, as well as Underground music, underground, Experimental music, experimental, and Alternative music, alternative music. Doug Yule
Douglas Alan Yule (born February 25, 1947) is an American musician and singer, most notable for being a member of the Velvet Underground from 1968 to 1973, serving as the bassist, guitarist, keyboardist and vocalist. Biography Early life Doug Yule was born in Mineola, Long Island, New York, and grew up in Great Neck with five sisters and a younger brother. As a child he took piano and baritone horn lessons. He later said in an interview that he would have preferred violin lessons, but the violin had to be rented and the baritone horn was available free of charge. In high school he played the tuba, as well as the guitar and the banjo, and sang in the church choir. Peel Slowly And See
''Peel Slowly and See'' is a five-disc box set of material by the Velvet Underground. It was released in September 1995 by Polydor. Compilation The name of this box set comes from the instruction presented on vinyl copies of the band's debut album to peel back the banana sticker featured on the cover. The set includes all four studio albums by the Lou Reed-era line-ups of the Velvet Underground, alongside demo recordings and live performances, some of which had been previously bootlegged, and some of which had never before been released. '' Squeeze'', recorded after Reed's departure from the band, is not included. Perfect Sound Forever (magazine)
''Perfect Sound Forever'' (established 1995) is one of the longest-running online-only music magazines. Along with Michael Goldberg (editor), Michael Goldberg's ''Addicted to Noise'' (est. 1994), it is one of the first publications to post recurring, feature-length music journalism online. PSF's origins trace back to New York freelance writer Jason Gross, who began a now-defunct website called Furious Green Thoughts (from the noted Colorless green ideas sleep furiously, Noam Chomsky quote). The site was first hosted by the pre-Earthlink ISP The Pipeline, Pipeline, and included articles covering politics, music and fiction. The name Perfect Sound Forever originated in an early 1980s ad campaign about the first generation of CDs, promising the highest fidelity possible, and that the discs would outlive their owners. New Age (The Velvet Underground Song)
"New Age" is the fifth song on The Velvet Underground album '' Loaded'' (1970). It is one of the four songs that feature Doug Yule on vocals, encouraged by main singer and songwriter Lou Reed. The song also appears on '' 1969: The Velvet Underground Live'', with Reed on vocals, singing an earlier, significantly different version of the lyrics. In its original form, it was about Reed's girlfriend at the time, Shelley Albin, and included a possible reference to Reed's bisexuality: "It seems to be my fancy to make it with Frank and Nancy." The later, studio version is written from the point of view of a fan addressing a "fat blonde actress". When the album was released, this song caused controversy. ''Rock 'n' Roll Animal'' is a live album by American musician Lou Reed, released in February 1974 by RCA Records. In its original form, it features five songs, four of which were initially recorded by the Velvet Underground. Reed's band included Pentti Glan (drums), Prakash John (bass), Ray Colcord (keyboards), and Dick Wagner and Steve Hunter (guitars). (The two guitarists would later form the basis of the first Alice Cooper solo band, beginning on '' Welcome to My Nightmare'', which also features Glan and John.) The album was recorded live on December 21, 1973, at Howard Stein's Academy of Music in New York City. ''American Poet'' is an album of an early solo concert by American rock musician Lou Reed, recorded live at the Calderone Concert Hall, Hempstead, New York, on Boxing Day 1972 during the ''Transformer'' tour. The backing band are the Tots. It features material from The Velvet Underground and Reed's first two 1972 solo albums, debut ''Lou Reed'' and ''Transformer''. The version of "Berlin" is the arrangement from that debut album. ''American Poet'' was released in 2001. It is an unauthorized release.
