Uig, Lewis
Uig ( ), also known as ''Sgìr' Ùig'', is a civil parish and community in the west of the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides, Scotland. The Parish of Uig is one of the four civil parishes of the Isle of Lewis. It contains the districts of Carloway, East Uig, Bernera and West Uig (commonly known as Uig district or Uig Lewis). The name derives from the Norse word '' Vik'' meaning 'a bay'. Geography The civil parish of Uig extends over a considerable area (roughly ) from the Harris border in the south to Dalmore in the north, and from Brenish in the west to Lochganvich in the east. The district known locally in Lewis as Uig is also called "West Uig" and is broadly the area west of Little Loch Roag (the narrow inlet extending south from (West) Loch Roag). Port Ellen
Port Ellen () is a small town on the island of Islay, in Argyll, Scotland. The town is named after the wife of its founder, Walter Frederick Campbell. Its previous name, ''Leòdamas'', is derived from Old Norse meaning "Leòd's Harbour". Port Ellen is built around Leodamais Bay, Islay's main deep water harbour. It is the largest town on Islay, only slightly larger than Bowmore and provides the main Caledonian MacBrayne, ferry connection between Islay and the mainland, at Kennacraig. Ardbeg Distillery
Ardbeg distillery (Scottish Gaelic: ''Taigh-staile na h-Àirde Bige'') is an Islay single malt Scotch whisky distillery in Ardbeg on the South coast of the isle of Islay, Argyll and Bute, Scotland, in the Inner Hebrides group of islands. The distillery is owned by Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy, and produces a heavily peated Islay whisky. The distillery uses malted barley sourced from the maltings in Port Ellen. The name ''Ardbeg'' is an anglicisation of the Scottish Gaelic ''An Àird Bheag'', meaning ''The Small Promontory''. History The Ardbeg distillery has been producing whisky since 1798, and began commercial production in 1815. Inverkeilor
Inverkeilor is a village and parish in Angus, Scotland. It lies near the North Sea coast, midway between Arbroath and Montrose, Angus, Montrose. The A92 road now bypasses the village. The population of Inverkeilor parish in the United Kingdom Census 2001 was 972, up from 902 in United Kingdom Census 1991, 1991. The population has been accommodated in recent years by the building of new houses in the village. The parish was previously known as ''Conghoillis'', and William J. Watson, Watson writes that it was dedicated to a Saint Mo Chonóc of Cell Mucroisse, who may be associated with Forteviot or St Andrews, or perhaps County Wexford in Ireland. Arbikie Distillery
Arbikie Distilling Limited, trading as Arbikie Distillery, is a scotch whisky, vodka and gin distillery in Inverkeilor, Angus, Scotland. History The distillery was built in 2013 on the Arbikie Highland Estate, a 2,000 acre farm owned by the Stirling family for four generations. There are earlier records of whisky production on the estate that date to 1794. The distillery is owned by Stirling brothers John, Iain and David. Production uses barley and potatoes from the estate farm. Overall, it is stated that 90% of all raw materials in the production process come from the farm. In August 2021, the distillery began an agreement with the company EcoSpirits for distribution, to reduce the carbon emissions associated with packaging and distribution. In December 2021, the distillery was granted £3 million through the Green Distilleries Competition to create a new hydrogen power plant at the distillery. Annan, Dumfries And Galloway
Annan ( ; ) is a town and former royal burgh in Dumfries and Galloway, south-west Scotland. Historically part of Dumfriesshire, its public buildings include Annan Academy, of which the writer Thomas Carlyle was a pupil, and a Georgian building now known as "Bridge House". Annan also features a Historic Resources Centre. In Port Street, some of the windows remain blocked up to avoid paying the window tax. Each year on the first Saturday in July, Annan celebrates the Royal Charter and the boundaries of the Royal Burgh are confirmed when a mounted cavalcade undertakes the Riding of the Marches. Annandale Distillery
Annandale distillery is a whisky distillery producing single malt Scotch whisky in Annan, Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland. History Annandale Distillery was established in 1836 by George Donald and was later bought by Johnnie Walker and Son in 1893. It was closed down in 1924 but was very well preserved. In 2007 the distillery was bought by the Annandale Distillery Company which is owned by David Thomson and Teresa Church. In 2008, the company received a grant of £150,000 from the Regional Selective Assistance (RSA) support as part of a £10.5m investment which will employ up to 29 people. In November 2014, the Annandale Visitor Centre opened and the first casks were distilled. The first cask of unpeated whisky made the news and was put up for sale for £1million. Allt-A-Bhainne distillery ( , meaning 'milk burn') is a Scotch whisky distillery in the Speyside Region of Scotland. It is located just down the road from the well-known whisky town of Dufftown. Allt-a-bhaine is one of the newer distilleries in Scotland, having been built in 1975. It was the first distillery to be designed with modernity in mind. All the equipment is in one room and the process from start to finish can be accomplished by one person.
