During World War II, Germany fielded many aircraft and rockets whose fuels, and oxidizers, were designated (letter)-''Stoff'' (). The following list of stoffs refers to the World War II aerospace meanings if not noted otherwise. Meaning of ''stoff'' The German word ''Stoff'' (plural ''Stoffe''), like the English word ''stuff'', derives from Old French ''estoffe'', however the meanings are somewhat different. Stoff has a fairly broad range of meanings, including "chemical substance" or "matter", "fuel" and "cloth", depending on the context. Ligroin
Ligroin is the petroleum fraction consisting mostly of C7 and C8 hydrocarbons and boiling in the range 90‒140 °C (194–284 °F). The fraction is also called heavy naphtha. Ligroin is used as a laboratory solvent. Products under the name ligroin can have boiling ranges as low as 60‒80 °C and may be called light naphtha. Triethylamine
Triethylamine is the chemical compound with the formula N(CH2CH3)3, commonly abbreviated Et3N. Like triethanolamine and the tetraethylammonium ion, it is often abbreviated TEA. Xylidine
Xylidine can refer to any of the six isomers of xylene amine, or any mixture of them. The chemical formula of xylidines is C8H11N or, more descriptively, (CH3)2C6H3NH2. The CAS number for the isomer mixture is 1300-73-8. They are colorless solids or liquids, although commercial samples can appear yellow or darker. They are miscible with ethanol and diethyl ether and slightly soluble in water. Xylidines are used in production of pigments and dyestuffs, and various antioxidants, agrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, hypergolic propellants, and many other organic chemicals. In World War II, xylidine was an important antiknock agent in very high performance aviation gasolines. Its purpose was to permit high levels of boost pressure in multiple-stage turbochargers, and thus high power at high altitudes, without causing detonation that would destroy the engine. Tonka (fuel)
Tonka is the name given to a family of German-designed rocket propellants first used under the name R-Stoff in the Wasserfall missile. Tonka propellants were later used in the Soviet Union, most commonly the TG-02 formulation, for example in the engine designs of the A.M. Isayev Chemical Engineering Design Bureau. Their use was later passed on along with other Soviet rocket technology to the Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan and later North Korea. Its name is a reference to the tonka bean. Being invented during the Second World War, it has no connection to the similarly named toys. The original R-Stoff formulation used by Nazi Germany was composed of 43% triethylamine and 57% xylidine. The ''Meillerwagen'' () was a German World War II trailer used to transport a V-2 rocket from the 'transloading point' of the Technical Troop Area to the launching point, to erect the missile on the ''Brennstand'' (), and to act as the Service tower, service gantry for fuelling and launch preparation.
