Districts will often shorten their names; for example, Sandy Valley Local School District is often referred to as Sandy Valley Schools. Districts are listed by the name the district uses to refer to itself. School districts in Ohio are classified as either city school districts, exempted village school districts, or local school districts. City and exempted village school districts are exempted from county boards of education, local school districts remain under county school board supervision. In Ohio, community schools (charter schools) serve as their own independent school districts. Alexander Local School District
The Alexander Local School District is a public school district based in Albany, Ohio, United States. The school district includes all of Alexander and Lodi townships, most of Waterloo Township as well as a small portion of west-central Athens Township in Athens County. Columbia Township in northwestern Meigs County and an extremely small portion of far eastern Knox Township in Vinton County also lie within the district. Albany is the only incorporated village that is served by Alexander Local Schools. Notable unincorporated communities in the district include Carbondale, New Marshfield, and Shade. Anna, Ohio
Anna is a village in Shelby County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,470 at the 2020 census. History Pre-historical period The prehistoric Teays River ran through modern-day Anna about 2 million years ago. The Teays river deposited loose sediment on the Greenville fault line which created a major earthquake center. Native American period According to the Native Americans, Tecumseh tried to start his alliances in what is now Anna. Most native Shawnee and Miami tribes refused the offer. He supposedly put a curse on the land. The curse stated that the land would be ever plagued with the trembling of the earth. Settlement The first white settlement at Anna was made in the 1830s. Anna was platted in 1868, and named for Anna Thirkield. There is one elementary school containing grades 2–3, and one early learning school containing only pre-school and kindergarten, one middle school, and one high school, and one intermediate school.
