Tunnel
A tunnel is an underground or undersea passageway. It is dug through surrounding soil, earth or rock, or laid under water, and is usually completely enclosed except for the two portals common at each end, though there may be access and ventilation openings at various points along the length. A pipeline differs significantly from a tunnel, though some recent tunnels have used immersed tube construction techniques rather than traditional tunnel boring methods. A tunnel may be for foot or vehicular road traffic, for rail traffic, or for a canal. The central portions of a rapid transit network are usually in the tunnel. Some tunnels are used as sewers or aqueducts to supply water for consumption or for hydroelectric stations. Utility tunnels are used for routing steam, chilled water, electrical power or telecommunication cables, as well as connecting buildings for convenient passage of people and equipment.Salazar, Waneta. Fehmarn Belt Tunnel
The Fehmarn Belt fixed link (, ) or Fehmarn Belt tunnel is an under-construction immersed tunnel, which will connect the Danish island of Lolland with the German island of Fehmarn, crossing the Fehmarn Belt in the Baltic Sea. It will provide a direct link between northern Germany and Lolland, and from there to the Danish island of Zealand and Copenhagen, becoming the world's longest road and rail tunnel. The tunnel will be a major connection between central Europe and Scandinavia. It will shorten the travel time between Lolland and Fehmarn from 45 minutes by ferry (excluding waiting and boarding time) to 10 minutes by car and seven minutes by train. The electrified high-speed rail in Europe, high-speed rail line will be capable of reaching . The project's cost was initially estimated at €5.5 billion. Fehmarn Sound Tunnel
The Fehmarn Sound Tunnel is a planned tunnel between the German mainland and the Island of Fehmarn. It is projected to be built by 2028 to supplement and to relieve the Fehmarn Sound Bridge. It should cost €718 million. The tunnel will be near Großenbrode. Background The treaty of 2008 between Germany and Denmark provided that the hinterland connection to the Fehmarnbelt link was to be expanded on the German side, but the Fehmarnsund Bridge was to remain a two-lane road and a single-track railway. The bridge was considered to be able to handle the increase in traffic. It was later decided that the increase in traffic could not be handled by the existing Fehmarn Sound Bridge, especially rail traffic.Deutsche Bahn. ''Entscheidung zur neue ...

Eastern Harbour Crossing
The Eastern Harbour Crossing (), abbreviated as "EHC" () is a combined road-rail tunnel that crosses beneath Victoria Harbour in Hong Kong. Opened on 21 September 1989, it is the second harbour-crossing tunnel built and the longest amongst the three. It connects Quarry Bay on Hong Kong Island and Cha Kwo Ling in East Kowloon, Kowloon East. History Initially, the Government of Hong Kong had plans to build a bridge across the eastern portion of the harbour but due to fears of the bridge blocking planes landing at Kai Tak Airport, Kai Tak airport, this was shelved in favour of a tunnel. In 1986, the New Hong Kong Tunnel Company Limited won the bidding for this contract, and was given the right to run the road tunnel on a 30-year franchisee, and the train tunnel on an 18-years-and-6 months franchisee counting from the first rail operating date. Construction started on 25 September 1986, and was commissioned on 21 September 1989, four months earlier than the original planned f ...
