The passenger rail service in North Rhine-Westphalia is one of the densest train services in Germany, comprising 100 million train kilometers and is mainly operated on an integrated timetable, which has been in effect since 1998 with the introduction its current version, known as ''1998 NRW-Takt''. Essen Hauptbahnhof (German for "Essen main station") is a railway station in the city of Essen in western Germany. It is situated south of the old town centre, next to the A 40 motorway. It was opened in 1862 by the Bergisch-Märkische Eisenbahn. Recklinghausen Hauptbahnhof
Recklinghausen Hauptbahnhof is a railway station for the city of Recklinghausen in Germany. History The original station opened in 1870 by the Cologne-Minden Railway Company as part of the construction of the Hamburg-Venlo railway. During the Second World War, on 1 April 1945, a heavy bombing raid mostly destroyed the station and tracks. It is commemorated by the bunker built next to the station, in which the Kunsthalle Recklinghausen was established in 1950. An outstanding feature of the architecture of the station building with its glass front is now the clock tower. The new bus station was built in 1998. Up until the renovation of the building, a plaque commemorating the 5000th kilometer of electrified rail of the Deutsche Bundesbahn, was located in the station. The Rhein-Haard-Express () is a Regional-Express service in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW), running from Osnabrück via Münster, Recklinghausen, Gelsenkirchen, Essen and Duisburg to Düsseldorf. The Haard-Bahn () operated at an interval of about half an hour after RE 2 on the section between Münster and Essen. This differed only by an additional stop in Recklinghausen Süd, which RE 2 stops at only in the off-peak.
