Five constituencies cover Dyfed, also used for elections to the Senedd. The current boundaries have been effective since the 2007 Welsh Assembly election and the 2010 United Kingdom general election. Dyfed is one of the eight preserved counties of Wales, consisting of the principal areas of Pembrokeshire, Carmarthenshire and Ceredigion. These principal areas are also known as counties. For Senedd elections, constituencies are grouped into additional member electoral regions. Carmarthen West And South Pembrokeshire (UK Parliament Constituency)
Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire () was a constituency of the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. It elected one Member of Parliament (MP) by the first past the post system of election. The Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire Senedd constituency was created with the same boundaries in 1999 (as an Assembly constituency). The constituency was abolished as part of the 2023 Periodic Review of Westminster constituencies and under the June 2023 final recommendations of the Boundary Commission for Wales. Its wards were split between Caerfyrddin (Carmarthen) and Mid and South Pembrokeshire. Dame Nia Rhiannon Griffith (born 4 December 1956) is a Welsh politician who has been the Member of Parliament (MP) for Llanelli since 2005. A member of the Labour Party, she has served as Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Wales and Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Equalities since 2024. Early life and career Griffith was born in Dublin, Republic of Ireland, on 4 December 1956. Ben Morgan Lake (born 22 January 1993) is a Plaid Cymru politician who became the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ceredigion Preseli, formerly Ceredigion, in 2017. David Jonathan Edwards (born 26 April 1976) is a Welsh politician who served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Carmarthen East and Dinefwr from 2010 to 2024. Initially elected as a Plaid Cymru MP. Boundary Commissions (United Kingdom)
In the United Kingdom, the boundary commissions are non-departmental public bodies responsible for determining the boundaries of parliamentary constituencies for elections to the House of Commons. There are four boundary commissions: one each for England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Each commission comprises four members, three of whom take part in meetings. The speaker of the House of Commons chairs each of the boundary commissions ''ex officio'' but does not play any part in the review, and a High Court judge is appointed to each boundary commission as deputy chair.
