Anna Karenina (1915 Film)
''Anna Karenina'' is a 1915 American silent drama film directed by J. Gordon Edwards and starring Betty Nansen. It was the first American adaptation of the 1878 novel by Leo Tolstoy. Some scenes were shot on location at a ski resort near Montreal. Plot Anna Karenina is a married aristocrat and socialite living in Saint Petersburg. She is living a torrid romance with a wealthy and young count, he loves her and is willing to marry her once she leave her husband. However, her infidelity causes her social peers to ostracize her. In isolation she becomes possessive and even paranoid. Untrustworthy herself, she cannot trust her lover and her mental and emotional instability lead eventually to her suicide. William Russell (American Actor)
William Russell (born William Lerche; April 12, 1884 – February 18, 1929) was an American actor, film director, film producer and screenwriter. He appeared in over two hundred Silent film, silent-era motion pictures between 1910 and 1929, directing five of them in 1916 and producing two through his own production company in 1918 and 1925. Early life and career Born in the Bronx borough of New York City, Russell began his acting career on the Theatre, stage when he was eight years old. He appeared with such notables as Ethel Barrymore, Chauncey Olcott, Blanche Bates, Maude Adams and others. Russell's Broadway credits include ''Princess Flavia'' (1925), ''Cyrano de Bergerac'' (1923), and ''The Tenderfoot'' (1904). His career came to a stop when he was 16, however, when he became an invalid. Through rigorous physical therapy, he recovered his health six years later. He then became an amateur boxing champion. Irving Cummings (October 9, 1888 – April 18, 1959) was an American movie actor and director. Career Born in New York City, Cummings started his acting career at age 16 in ''Diplomacy (play), Diplomacy''. His Broadway theatre, Broadway, performances included ''In the Long Run'' (1909) and ''Object -- Matrimony'' (1916). Acting in the Proctor Stock Company, Cummings appeared with Lillian Russell and other actresses. Cummings entered into movies in 1909, acting with the P. A. William Desmond Taylor (born William Cunningham Deane-Tanner; 26 April 1872 – 1 February 1922) was an Anglo-Irish-American film director and actor. A popular figure in the growing Cinema of the United States, Hollywood motion picture colony of the 1910s and early 1920s, Taylor directed fifty-nine silent films between 1914 and 1922 and acted in twenty-seven between 1913 and 1915. Jacques Jaccard
Jacques Jaccard (September 11, 1886 – July 24, 1960) was an American film director, writer and actor whose achievements in cinema were mostly in silent film. He directed 86 films and wrote scripts for 80. The best-known of his films as a director was ''The Diamond from the Sky'' (1915). Biography Jaccard told reporters he was born in New York City and educated in France. He moved back to the U.S. around 1913 and began a career as an actor and assistant director, specializing in western and action films at Universal early on. In the mid-1920s, after returning from serving in World War I, he began working for lower-rent studios such as Goodwill Pictures, Syndicate Pictures, and Arrow Pictures. When movies with sound became popular, Jaccard's career went downhill. He directed his last film, ''Señor Jim'', in 1936. After that, he worked as a screenwriter and dialogue director. ''The Diamond from the Sky'' is a 1915 American silent film, silent adventure film, adventure-film serial directed by Jacques Jaccard and William Desmond Taylor and starring Lottie Pickford, Irving Cummings, and William Russell (American actor), William Russell. No copies of this serial's "chapters" have been found, so the overall production is currently classified as a lost film.
