Nobel Prize In Literature
The Nobel Prize in Literature, here meaning ''for'' Literature (), is a Swedish literature prize that is awarded annually, since 1901, to an author from any country who has, in the words of the will of Swedish industrialist Alfred Nobel, "in the field of literature, produced the most outstanding work in an idealistic direction" (original ). Though individual works are sometimes cited as being particularly noteworthy, the award is based on an author's body of work as a whole. The Swedish Academy decides who, if anyone, will receive the prize. The academy announces the name of the laureate in early October. It is one of the five Nobel Prizes established by the will of Alfred Nobel in 1895. Literature is traditionally the final award presented at the Nobel Prize ceremony. The Europese Literatuurprijs (in English European Literature Prize) is a Dutch literature prize awarded annually since 2011 to the best contemporary European novel that was published in the previous year and translated into Dutch language, Dutch. The author of the winning novel receives , and the translator . The prize is an initiative of the Nederlands Letterenfonds, Dutch Foundation for Literature, the academic-cultural center ''SPUI25'', the weekly newspaper ''De Groene Amsterdammer'' and the'' Athenaeum Boekhandel'' bookstore. It is sponsored by the Lira Fund and various independent bookshops. The book suggestions come from Dutch and Flanders, Flemish bookshops, though the decision on who ultimately receives the prize is made by a specialist jury. Mao Dun Literature Prize
The Mao Dun Literature Prize () is an award for novels, established in the will of prominent Chinese writer Mao Dun (for which he personally donated 250,000 RMB) and sponsored by the China Writers Association. Awarded every four years, it is one of the most prestigious literature prizes in China. It was first awarded in 1982. Selection rules According to selection rule, any work, authored by Chinese nationals, published in mainland China, and with over 130,000 characters, is eligible. The selection committee in the Chinese Writers Association holds the voting poll twice, and the winner must receive over 2/3 of the votes cast. Bangla Academy Award
The Bangla Academy Literary Award (; ''Bangla Academy Shahitya Puroshkar'') is given by the Bangla Academy of Bangladesh in recognition of creative genius in advancement and overall contribution in the field of Bengali language and literature. It was introduced in 1960 and recognized six categories: poetry, novels, short stories, essays, children's literature and translation. Ananda Puraskar
The Ananda Puraskar () is an award for Bengali literature awarded annually by the ABP Group to writers using Bengali language, Bengali, usually from West Bengal, India. History The award can be traced to a comment by Annada Shankar Ray ruing the absence of literary awards in Bengal. It was started on 20 April 1958 and has been given in the same month since. Initially, there were two awards, in memory of Prafulla Kumar Sarkar and Suresh Chandra Majumdar, the founders of ''Anandabazar Patrika''. Bankim Puraskar
Bankim Puraskar (, Bankim Memorial Award) is the highest award given by the Government of West Bengal for contribution to Bengali fiction. The award was instituted in 1975 in memory of Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay, a famous Bengali novelist of the 19th century. It has been brought under the aegis of Paschimbanga Bangla Akademi, functioning under the Department of Information & Cultural Affairs, in 2003. The Rabindra Puraskar (also Rabindra Smriti Puraskar) is the highest honorary literary award given in the Indian state of West Bengal. This award is named after the famous Indian poet Rabindranath Tagore and is administered by the Government of West Bengal under the aegis of the Paschimbanga Bangla Academy (Bengali Academy of West Bengal), Kolkata.The award is given for creative literature, non-fiction and books about Bengal in Bengali as well as other languages. The Sheikh Zayed Book Award is a literary award presented yearly to writers, intellectuals, publishers whose writings and scholarly publications contributed to Arab cultural, literary and social life. The award has been described as “the Arab World’s equivalent to the Nobel Prize”. The first award was in 2007. The total value of the prizes is making it one of the richest literary awards in the world. The King Faisal Prize (, formerly King Faisal International Prize), is an annual award sponsored by King Faisal Foundation presented to "dedicated men and women whose contributions make a positive difference". Katara Prize For Arabic Novel
The Katara Prize for Arabic Novel is an Arabic literary prize based in Qatar. It was established in 2014 by the Doha-based Katara Cultural Village. The total prize pool is $650,000 and the main prize $200,000, making it one of the richest literary prizes in the world. One of its sponsors is UNESCO. The winning novels will be translated into five languages - including French and English. The prize was originally split into two major categories: published and unpublished novels each of which had five winners. More recently, prizes were added for research/literary critique and for young adult unpublished novels. For the published novels, the five winners originally received $60,000 while five winners in the unpublished category were each awarded $30,000.
