The lieutenant governor of Missouri is the first person in the order of succession of the U.S. state of Missouri's executive branch, thus serving as governor in the event of the death, resignation, removal, Impeachment in the United States, impeachment, absence from the state, or incapacity due to illness of the governor of Missouri. The lieutenant governor also serves, ex officio, as president of the Missouri Senate. The lieutenant governor is elected separately from the governor, and therefore may be of a different party than the governor. David Wasinger
David G. Wasinger (born 1962/1963) is an American attorney, accountant, and politician who is serving as the 49th Lieutenant Governor of Missouri, since 2025. On November 5, 2024, he defeated Democratic nominee Richard Brown (Missouri politician), Richard Brown for 2024 Missouri lieutenant gubernatorial election, Lieutenant Governor. Early life and education Wasinger was born and raised in Hannibal, Missouri. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from the University of Missouri and a Juris Doctor from the Vanderbilt University Law School. In law school, Wasinger was an associate editor of the ''Vanderbilt Law Review''. He is Roman Catholic. Career After earning his undergraduate degree, Wasinger worked as a Certified Public Accountant. In 1991, he joined a small law firm. Hancock Lee Jackson
Hancock Lee Jackson (May 12, 1796March 19, 1876) was an American lawyer and politician who served as the 13th Governor of Missouri in 1857. Biography Jackson was born in Madison County, Kentucky on May 12, 1796. He was educated in the county schools and became a farmer. Hancock Lee's father was John Jackson and his brother was Jarvis Jackson Jr. John and Jarvis Jr. later sold the land that would become Laurel County, Kentucky. He moved to Missouri in 1821, and continued to farm. In 1829 he entered politics as a Democrat when he became sheriff of Randolph County, a position he held for two terms. He also served as a delegate to the 1845 Missouri Constitutional Convention, During the Mexican–American War, he raised a company of volunteers and was elected commander with the rank of captain. Charles Phillip Johnson (January 18, 1836 - May 21, 1920) was an American politician and attorney who served as Missouri lieutenant governor from 1873 until 1875. Biography Johnson was born in Lebanon, Illinois on January 18, 1836. His maternal grandparents were from Virginia. His mother was born in Mississippi River island community of Kaskaskia, Illinois. His father was born in Philadelphia. He briefly attended McKendree College. Johnson had been a newspaper editor for two years before he took up the study of law. Four years later he became city attorney in St. Louis. Johnson had helped organize Missouri troops for the Union cause during the Civil War.
