Easton, Maine
Easton is a town in Aroostook County, Maine, United States. The population was 1,320 at the 2020 census. History In 1851, the first known residence in the Easton wilderness was built by Henry Wilson, who had taught school in Presque Isle. When Solomon Bolster arrived in 1854, he joined Henry Wilson and Augustus Rackliffe, its sole residents. In 1855–1856, Noah Barker partitioned the township into 142 lots of 160 acres in size, thereby determining its layout. The state opened it for settlement and, on July 26, 1856, it was organized as the Fremont Plantation. A schoolhouse was built in 1858 and the first of several lumber mills was constructed in another year. By 1860, the population was 320. Growth of the population slowed during the Civil War, and the town of Easton was incorporated 1865. Van Buren High School (Van Buren, Maine)
Van Buren High School is a public high school in Van Buren, Maine, United States. The school's sports teams are known as the Crusaders. During the 2014–15 school year, 60% of the school's 80 students were considered economically disadvantaged. It is also known as M.S.A.D. 24 and is located on the site of the old Saint Mary's College, where the first report of the Armistice ending World War 1 was received in the U.S. on Father Thomas's wireless telegraph machine. Louis Sockalexis played his freshman year of college baseball at St. Mary's before transferring to Holy Cross. Presque Isle ( ) is the commercial center and largest city in Aroostook County, Maine, United States. The population was 8,797 at the 2020 Census. The city is home to the University of Maine at Presque Isle, Northern Maine Community College, Northern Maine Fairgrounds, the Aroostook Centre Mall, and the Presque Isle International Airport. Presque Isle is the headquarters of the Aroostook Band of Micmac, a federally recognized tribe. The Maine School of Science and Mathematics (MSSM) is a public residential magnet high school in Limestone, Maine, United States. MSSM serves students from all over the state of Maine, as well as youth from other states and international students. Madawaska is opposite Edmundston, Madawaska County in New Brunswick, Canada, to which it is connected by the Edmundston–Madawaska Bridge over the Saint John River. The majority of its residents speak French; 83.4% of the population speaks French at home. History During the early colonial period, Madawaska was a meeting place and hunting/fishing area for the Maliseet (Wolastoqiyik) nation. Later, it was at the center of the bloodless Aroostook War.
