Saskatchewan ( ; ) is a province in western Canada, bordered on the west by Alberta, on the north by the Northwest Territories, on the east by Manitoba, to the northeast by Nunavut, and on the south by the U.S. states of Montana and North Dakota. Sandy Bay ( cwd, script=Cans, i=no, ᑳ ᒥᓂᐢᑎᑯᒋᐘᕽ, kâ-ministikociwahk, translation=Islands in the stream) is a northern village in Saskatchewan, Canada. It is located 190 km northwest of Creighton via the Hanson Lake Road and Highway 135. The community is on the banks of the Churchill River. It is at the end of Highway 135, after passing through Pelican Narrows. Sandy Bay is 72 km north of Pelican Narrows. Pelican Narrows, the neighbouring community, is the administrative centre for the Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation and the majority of the townsite is reserve land. Island Falls is a hydroelectric power station operated by SaskPower, a Saskatchewan crown corporation. It is located on the Churchill River, about northwest of Flin Flon, Manitoba, Canada. Island Falls was the first hydroelectric power plant in Saskatchewan. It was built between 1928 and 1930 by the Churchill River Power Company, a subsidiary of Hudson Bay Mining and Smelting, to provide electricity for the HBM&S mining operations at Flin Flon and Cold Lake, Manitoba. Nipawin
Nipawin () is a town in Saskatchewan, Canada, on the Saskatchewan River portion of Tobin Lake. The town lies between Codette Lake, created by the Francois-Finlay Dam (built in 1986) and Tobin Lake, created by the E.B. Campbell Dam built in 1963, renamed from Squaw Rapids. The construction of Francois-Finlay Dam earned Nipawin the nickname the "Town of Two Lakes". Nipawin is bordered by the Rural Municipality of Nipawin No. 487 and the Rural Municipality of Torch River No. 488 (the latter across the Saskatchewan River). Gull Lake is a town in Saskatchewan, Canada, situated on the junction of the Trans-Canada Highway and Highway 37, west of Swift Current. History The history of the Gull Lake community dates back to 1906, when a development company Conrad and Price acquired and surveyed the town site and subdivided it into blocks. Unlike most other towns located along the Canadian Pacific Railway main line, Gull Lake was not planned and established by the railroad. In fact, there was some animosity from the railroad towards this town that bucked their plan. The origin of the name Gull Lake comes from the Cree word for the area, ''Kiaskus'' (''kiyaskos'') which means "little gull". From 1906 to 1909 there was no municipal government or authority other than Conrad and Price: the company had full jurisdiction over civic affairs.
