This is a list of current further education colleges that are publicly funded by the Education and Skills Funding Agency in England. The government considers colleges of the further education sector to be: "general FE (GFE) and tertiary colleges, sixth form (6F) colleges, specialist colleges (e.g. colleges of agriculture, or drama) and adult education institutes." With a substantial number of mergers, and the foundation of many new institutions, this list is inevitably going to be incomplete or include colleges that have since merged to form new institutions, such as Hackney Community College, Tower Hamlets College, and Redbridge College now being titled New City College. Further Education
Further education (often abbreviated FE) in the United Kingdom and Ireland is additional education to that received at secondary school that is distinct from the higher education (HE) offered in universities and other academic institutions. It may be at any level in compulsory secondary education, from entry to higher level qualifications such as awards, certificates, diplomas and other vocational, competency-based qualifications (including those previously known as NVQ, NVQ/SVQs) through awarding organisations including City and Guilds, Edexcel (Business and Technology Education Council, BTEC) and Oxford, Cambridge and RSA Examinations, OCR. FE colleges may also offer HE qualifications such as Higher National Certificate, HNC, Higher National Diploma, HND, foundation degree or Postgraduate Certificate in Education, PGCE. Reading College
Reading College is a further education college based in Reading, Berkshire, England. It has over 8,500 local learners on over 900 courses. The Kings Road site that is the principal location of Reading College has been used for further education since 1955, when the Reading Technical College was opened. This was renamed the Reading College of Technology in 1967 and the Reading College of Arts and Technology during the 1970s. Thanks to a merger with the Berkshire College of Art and Design (in Maidenhead), it became the Reading College and School of Arts and Design in 1997. It was taken over and became part of Thames Valley University in 2004. Barton Peveril College
Barton Peveril Sixth Form College is an Ofsted 'Outstanding' sixth form college located in Eastleigh, Hampshire, UK with approximately 5,000 students, aged 16–18. It is part of the Wessex Group of Sixth Form Colleges. History Originally Barton Peveril School was a temporary school, founded in 1904 by the local County Education Authority, to meet the demands of the new railway town of Eastleigh. It had two long-serving head teachers, with Miss Annie Smith at the reins from the start until her retirement in 1936 and then Mr Harry Newnham Reed Moore (1897–1991), who again only left to retire in 1963. Barnsley College
Barnsley College is a further education college just outside the town centre of Barnsley, England. It has several campuses, including the SciTech Digital Innovation Centre and The Electric Theatre. The college provides A Levels, apprenticeships and vocational courses for students. Upon its last Ofsted inspection, the college was awarded the grade of ''Outstanding'', the highest grade available; further to this award the college was also deemed ''The best college in the UK'' by Ofsted officials. Barnfield College
Barnfield College is a further education college in Luton and is part of the West Herts College Group. In 2024 Ofstead rated the group as 'Good'. History Origin In 1958, Luton Technical School moved to a new building off Barnfield Avenue, and the name of the school was changed to ''Barnfield Secondary Technical School''. With the introduction of comprehensive schools in Luton in 1967, it became ''Barnfield High School''. Askham Bryan College is a specialist land-based college based in Askham Bryan, York, England. Opened to students in 1948, it also has centres in Newcastle, Middlesbrough, Saltaire and Wakefield. EKC Ashford College is a further education college located in Ashford, Kent, England, founded in August 2014. Since 2020 it has been a member of the East Kent Colleges (EKC) Group, which was established in 2018 to unite several colleges in East Kent under a single network. Aquinas College, Stockport
Aquinas College is a Roman Catholic sixth form college in Stockport, Greater Manchester, England. The college offers a range of Level 2 and Level 3 courses including GCSEs, A-Levels, and other vocational courses such as BTECs and T-levels. The college also offers various adult education courses. History The college was established in 1980 by the Diocese of Shrewsbury and is named after St. Thomas Aquinas. The college was opened on the site of St. Michael's Secondary School.
