Client Portal
A client portal is an electronic gateway to a collection of digital files, services, and information, accessible over the Internet through a web browser. The term is most often applied to a sharing mechanism between an organization and its clients. The organization provides a secure entry point, typically via a website, that lets its clients log into an area where they can view, download, and upload private information. Client portals are most prevalently used for the secure exchange of financial information, usually when teams are working remotely. Privacy laws such as the Gramm–Leach–Bliley Act require that organizations encrypt their clients' personally identifiable information that is sent online electronically. Sharing such information through email does not comply with the Gramm–Leach–Bliley Act and other federal privacy laws. Huddle (software)
Huddle is a privately held cloud-based collaboration software company founded in London in 2006 by Alastair Mitchell and Andy McLoughlin. The company is co-headquartered in London and San Francisco with additional offices in Washington D.C., and New York City. History , the company had raised approximately $40 million in three funding rounds from Jafco Ventures, Eden Ventures, Matrix Partners and angel investors. On September 12, 2013, Huddle announced its desktop integrations with Huddle for Mac, Huddle for Windows and Huddle for Outlook. The launch of Huddle Note followed in December 2013, enabling simple content creation in the cloud, along with a redesigned iOS app. The Huddle for Office integration launched the following year. ShareFile is a secure content collaboration, file sharing and sync software that supports all the document-centric tasks and workflow needs of small and large businesses. The company also offers cloud-based or on-premises storage, virtual data rooms and client portals. ShareFile is owned by Progress Software Corporation. History Early history Jesse Lipson, a self-taught programmer, built and launched ShareFile in November 2005 in Raleigh, North Carolina. Lipson created ShareFile after several of his website design clients asked him to build a password-protected area where they could set up folders and exchange business files with their clients. He felt FTP sites of the time were insufficient and saw an opportunity to create a web-based product.
