Virum
Virum is a mostly residential, suburban neighbourhood in Lyngby-Taarbæk Municipality, located on both sides of Lyngby Kongevej, approximately 15 km north of central Copenhagen, Denmark. The neighbourhood is bordered by Furesø (lake), Lake Furesø to the west, Holte in Rudersdal Municipality to the north, Brede, Denmark, Brede to the east and Kongens Lyngby and Sorgenfri to the south. History The village of Virum is first mentioned in a papal letter from 1186 but is no doubt considerably older. The name "an open place which is easy to defend" ('' vigi'': "easily defendable place" and -rum: open place). Taarbæk
Taarbæk is a neighbourhood in Lyngby-Taarbæk Municipality. The neighbourhood covers approximately 0.5 km2, located between Jægersborg Dyrehave and Øresund. The population is estimated to ca. 1700 residents. Traditionally, Taarbæk was a fishing village but, nowadays, the village is inhabited by people from the middle or upper class. Taarbæk is named after a former village called Torsbæk, which was located just north of where Taarbæk is today. The giant container ship Emma Mærsk is home-ported in Taarbæk. Tyge Hvass (5 July 1885 – 4 September 1963) was a Danish functionalism (architecture), functionalist architect. He was most notable for his design work on the J.F. Willumsens Museum in Frederikssund. Biography Hvass was born in Viborg Municipality, Randrup, Denmark. He was the son of Franciscus Tertius Hvass and Christine Cathrine Henriette Kopp. He attended the Aalborg Technical School in 1905 and was admitted to the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, School of Architecture in Copenhagen in 1906. He was employed by architect Anton Rosen from 1908-16. In 1922, Hvass established his own firm. Sorgenfri (lit. "free of sorrow", like Sans Souci) is a neighbourhood in Lyngby-Taarbæk Municipality in Greater Copenhagen lying just north of Kongens Lyngby. The neighbourhood is enclosed between the landmarks of a forest with Lyngby Åmose, Mølleådalen and Spurveskjulskoven (lit. "sparrow shelter" forest) in the south, the Furesø Lake in the west and the parklands of Sorgenfri Palace and the Open Air Museum in the east. In the north of Sorgenfri lies the town Virum – which was till the end of the First World War a village. Lottenborg is an inn located in Sorgenfri. Lyngby-Taarbæk Municipality (occasionally spelled Lyngby-Tårbæk, ) is a municipality () in the Capital Region of Denmark near Copenhagen on the eastern coast of the island of Zealand (). It is part of the Greater Copenhagen area. The municipality borders Rudersdal Municipality to the north, Furesø Municipality to the west and Gladsaxe and Gentofte Municipality to the south.
