University Of San Carlos
The University of San Carlos (USC or colloquially San Carlos) is a private, Catholic, research, coeducational basic and higher education institution administered by the Philippine Southern Province of the Society of the Divine Word missionaries in Cebu City, Philippines, since 1935. It offers basic education (Montessori academy, grade school, junior high school and senior high school) and higher education (undergraduate and graduate studies). Founded originally in 1595 as Colegio de San Ildefonso which was closed upon the expulsion of the Jesuit missionaries from the Philippines in 1768. The Colegio was reopened in 1783 as Seminario-Colegio de San Carlos until the colegio was split from the seminary in 1924. The Colegio de San Carlos became university on July 1, 1948. USC has 5 campuses with combined land area of 88 hectares or 217 acres (Talamban campus has 78 hectares). John Geesnell Yap II
John Geesnell Lim Yap II (born October 16, 1977), popularly known as Baba Yap, is a Filipino politician who has been the representative for Bohol's first district in the House of Representatives of the Philippines since 2025. He was previously the mayor of Tagbilaran, Bohol from 2013 to 2022 until he was succeeded by his wife Jane Yap. Early life and education Yap, born John Geesnell Lim Yap II, is the second son of John U. Yap and Geesnell N. Lim. Lauro "The Fox" Mumar (March 6, 1924 – December 20, 1990) was a Filipino basketball player and later served as the national team head coach of India and the Philippines. He was one of the greatest Filipino players of his time, playing alongside compatriot legend Carlos Loyzaga. He is the father of Lawrence "Larry" Mumar (30 November 1946 – 23 October 2001) who was also a basketball player. He is the grandfather of L.A. Mumar, Vico Sotto's half-brother. Marcelo "Celing" Briones Fernan (October 24, 1927 – July 11, 1999) was a Filipino lawyer and political figure. He is the only Filipino to have served as both Chief Justice of the Supreme Court and as Senate President. He is also the third Filipino to have headed both the judicial and legislative branches of government, after Querube Makalintal who served as Chief Justice and Speaker of the Batasang Pambansa in the 1970s, and José Yulo, who served as Chief Justice and Speaker of the House of Representatives before 1946. Lourdes Quisumbing (February 13, 1921 – October 14, 2017) served as the Philippines' Secretary of Education, Culture, and Sports from 1986 to 1989, under the presidency of Corazon Aquino. Osmundo "Mundo" Genson Rama (September 23, 1914 — November 13, 1998) was a Filipino Visayan physician and politician from Cebu, Philippines.
