United Productions Of America
United Productions of America, better known as UPA, was an American animation studio and later distribution company founded in 1941 as Industrial Film and Poster Service by former Walt Disney Productions employees. Beginning with industrial and World War II training films, UPA eventually produced theatrical shorts for Columbia Pictures such as the Mr. Magoo series. In 1956, UPA produced a television series for CBS, '' The Gerald McBoing-Boing Show'', hosted by Gerald McBoing Boing. In the 1960s, UPA produced syndicated Mr. Magoo and '' Dick Tracy'' television series and other series and specials, including '' Mister Magoo's Christmas Carol''. UPA also produced two animated features, '' 1001 Arabian Nights'' and '' Gay Purr-ee'', and distributed Japanese films from Toho Studios in the 1970s and 1980s. Omnibus (American TV Program)
''Omnibus'' is an American, commercially sponsored, educational variety television series. History ''Omnibus'' was created by the Ford Foundation, which sought to increase the education level of the American public. The show was conceived by James Webb Young who hired Robert Saudek as producer. Saudek believed that Omnibus could "raise the level of American taste" with educational entertainment. The show was broadcast live, primarily on Sunday afternoons at 4:00pm EST, from November 9, 1952, until April 16, 1961. ''Omnibus'' originally aired on CBS, and later on Sunday evenings on ABC. The show was never commercially viable on its own, and sources of funding dwindled after the Ford Foundation ended its sponsorship in 1957. That year, the program moved to NBC, where it was irregularly scheduled until 1961. The show's first season had an audience of 4 million, which grew to 5.7 million at its peak in 1957. ''Dreamboat'' is a 1952 American comedy film directed by Claude Binyon and starring Clifton Webb, Ginger Rogers, Anne Francis and Jeffrey Hunter. Plot The respectable lives of English literature lecturer Thornton Sayre and his daughter Carol are disrupted when it is revealed that Thornton was once the matinee idol Bruce Blair, who played El Toro (based on Zorro) and other romantic figures, and was widely known as the "Dreamboat". His films are now being broadcast on a television show hosted by his former costar Gloria Marlowe. Thornton's daughter Carol is belittled by fellow students following the revelation. Her father affirms that he was a teacher before he was an actor. The Red Pony (1949 Film)
''The Red Pony'' is a 1949 American Technicolor drama film directed by Lewis Milestone and starring Myrna Loy, Robert Mitchum and Louis Calhern. It is based on John Steinbeck's 1937 novella of the same name. Steinbeck also wrote the screenplay for this film. It was distributed by Republic Pictures. Plot The Tiflin family live in a remote ranch in the Salinas Valley in California. Tom Tiflin, a young boy, is given a small pony by his father, Fred Tiflin. His grandfather tells rambling and exaggerated tales of the west over meal times. Fred is tired of his stories but his daughter (Fred's wife) likes his eccentricity. Most of his stories revolve around his leading a wagon train cross country in the pioneer days. Clyde Geronimi
Clito "Clyde" Geronimi (June 12, 1901 – April 24, 1989), known as Gerry, was an American animation director. He is best known for his work at Walt Disney Productions. Biography Geronimi was born in Chiavenna, Kingdom of Italy, Italy, immigrating to the United States as a young child. Geronimi's earliest work in the animation field was for the Bray Productions, J.R. Bray Studios, where he worked with Walter Lantz. Upon the dissolution of the Bray Studio in 1928, Geronimi followed Lantz to his own studio, Walter Lantz Productions, producing cartoons for Universal Pictures. Geronimi left Lantz in 1931 to join Walt Disney Productions, where he remained until 1959. Geronimi started off in the shorts department as an animator, eventually becoming a director. Abe Levitow
Abraham Levitow (July 2, 1922 – May 8, 1975) was an American animator who worked at Warner Bros. Cartoons, UPA and MGM Animation/Visual Arts. He is best known for his work under Chuck Jones' direction. Career Levitow was born in Los Angeles, California to William Levitow and Sarah Schlafmitz. He began working as an in-betweener and assistant animator at Warner Bros. Cartoons in 1940 at the age of 17. Levitow briefly left Warner Brothers when he was drafted during World War II working on training films, in which during that time he met Stan Lee and became close friends with him. Levitow returned to the studio, working as an assistant animator for Ken Harris under the Chuck Jones unit, and he was later promoted to animator in 1950 and would receive his first animations credit in 1953 for the cartoon Wild Over You. Gil Turner (animator)
Gilbert H. Turner (September 11, 1913 – March 19, 1967) was an American animator, comic book artist and producer. Career He started out working at Walt Disney Animation, and eventually moved over to other studios, such as Hugh Harman's and Jam Handy in Detroit, Michigan. He also worked for Warner Bros. Cartoons in Hollywood during World War II and for William Hanna and Joseph Barbera at the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer cartoon studio. He worked for various Holloywood cartoon studios, such as Disney, Warner Bros. Cartoons, the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer cartoon studio (MGM), Walter Lantz Productions, UPA, Hanna-Barbera and Format Films. He also drew comic books based on characters from these studios. Biography Turner was born in 1913. He worked as an ice cream salesman before starting as an animator at Disney Studios in January 1933. His stay was so brief that no credit known for his work there survived.
