This is a list of recurring characters in the ''Pokémon'' video game series. Characters may appear in multiple continuities within the ''Pokémon'' franchise, such as the animated adaptations, films, manga, and books. Pokémon (video Game Series)
is a Japanese series of video games developed by Game Freak and published by Nintendo and The Pokémon Company under the ''Pokémon'' franchise. It was created by Satoshi Tajiri with assistance from Ken Sugimori. The first games, ''Pocket Monsters Red'' and ''Green'', were released in 1996 in Japan for the Game Boy, later released outside of Japan as Pokémon Red and Blue, ''Pokémon Red Version'' and ''Blue Version''. Pokémon Black 2 And White 2
is a Japanese media franchise consisting of video games, animated series and films, a trading card game, and other related media. The franchise takes place in a shared universe in which humans co-exist with creatures known as Pokémon, a large variety of species endowed with special powers. The franchise's primary target audience is children aged 5 to 12, but it is known to attract people of all ages. Pikachu
Pikachu (; Japanese: , Hepburn: ) is a Pokémon species in Nintendo and Game Freak's ''Pokémon'' media franchise, and the franchise's mascot. First introduced in the video games ''Pokémon Red'' and ''Blue'', it was created by Atsuko Nishida at the request of lead designer Ken Sugimori, with the design finalized by Sugimori. Ash Ketchum
Ash Ketchum, known as in Japan, is a character in the ''Pokémon'' franchise owned by Nintendo, Game Freak, and Creatures. He was the protagonist of the ''Pokémon'' anime for the first 25 seasons, as well as the protagonist of several manga series. In Japanese, the character is voiced by Rica Matsumoto. In the English dub, he was voiced by Veronica Taylor in the first eight seasons and Sarah Natochenny afterwards. Squirtle
Squirtle (), known as in Japan, is a Pokémon species in Nintendo and Game Freak's ''Pokémon'' franchise. It was designed by Atsuko Nishida. Its name was changed from Zenigame to Squirtle during the English localization of the series in order to give it a "clever and descriptive name." In animated appearances, Squirtle is voiced in Japanese by Rikako Aikawa and in English localizations by Eric Stuart, and later Michele Knotz. In the main series games, Squirtle can evolve into Wartortle, and can then further evolve into Blastoise. It is one of the three first partner Pokémon obtainable in ''Pokémon Red, Blue, and Green'', the first games in the series. Squirtle has received a mostly positive reception since its debut. Junichi Masuda
is a Japanese video game composer, director, designer, producer, singer, programmer and trombonist, best known for his work in the ''Pokémon'' franchise. He was a member of Game Freak where he was an employee and executive at the company since 1989 when he founded it alongside Satoshi Tajiri and Ken Sugimori.
