Flyweight is a weight class in combat sports. Boxing Flyweight is a class in boxing which includes fighters weighing up to and including 51 kg (112 lb) for a title fight. Professional boxing The flyweight division was the last of boxing's eight traditional weight classes to be established. Before 1909, anyone below featherweight was considered a bantamweight, regardless of how small the boxer. István Énekes (20 February 1911 – 2 January 1940) was a Hungarian boxer who competed in the 1932 Summer Olympics. Edgar Basel (1 November 1930 in Mannheim — 7 September 1977) was a boxer from Germany, who won the silver medal in the flyweight division (– 51 kg) at the 1952 Summer Olympics in Helsinki. Nate Brooks (boxer)
Nathan Eugene Brooks (August 4, 1933 – April 14, 2020) was a boxer from the United States, who won the gold medal in the flyweight division (– 51 kg) at the 1952 Summer Olympics in Helsinki. Early life Brooks grew up in the Miles Heights neighborhood on the southeast side of Cleveland, Ohio. He was the 8th of 11 children of his parents, Frank and Mary Brooks. He graduated from John Adams High School. Amateur career Brooks had an outstanding career. Despitlosingthe National AAU flyweight crown in 1949 to Johnny Ortega, Brooks won titles at the Chicago Golden Gloves in 1950 and 1951. Spartaco Bandinelli (27 March 1921 – 17 February 1997) was an Italian boxer. He was born and died in Velletri. He started boxing at the amateur level at the age of 16. World War II would interrupt his boxing career, he was drafted into the Italian army. At the end of the war he joined AS Audace, a Roman sports club. Pascual Pérez (boxer)
Pascual Nicolás Pérez (May 4, 1926 – January 22, 1977) was an Argentine flyweight boxer. Pérez was born in Tupungato in the Mendoza Province of Argentina, he went on to make history by becoming Argentina's first world boxing champion. Pérez usually did poor at the ticket gates in Argentina after he became world champion, forcing him to defend his world title on the road many times and to become known as a world-traveling champion. His first international success was a gold medal at the 1948 Summer Olympics in United Kingdom. He and Delfo Cabrera were the only two Argentines to be an Olympic gold medalists in the London Olympics of 1948. Perez reigned as World Champion from 1954 to 1960. As an amateur he fought 125 bouts. Louis Laurie
Louis Daniel Laurie (November 19, 1917 – December 26, 2002) was an American professional boxer who competed in the 1936 Summer Olympics. In 1936, he won the bronze medal in the flyweight class after winning the third-place fight against Alfredo Carlomagno. At the time, the two losing semifinalists met in a bout for the bronze medal. Personal Laurie was born to an Italian father and a Slovak mother in Cleveland, Ohio. Lou graduated from East Technical High School and went to work as a service station attendant. He was acrobatic champion of Cleveland for two years. Amateur career Although he competed in only 22 amateur bouts, Laurie accomplished a great deal during that time.
