The following is a list of drafts held by National Women's Soccer League (NWSL), with a brief description of each. Preseason 2013 (inaugural) *2013 NWSL College Draft: Held January 18 at the annual NSCAA convention, this year in Indianapolis, the draft allowed all eight teams to draft four players who had completed their college eligibility. While they had originally announced that the draft would be in snake format with randomly determined order, NWSL announced several days before the draft that the order would be the same in each of the four rounds, with the order semi-randomly determined with weighting based on evaluation of the NWSL federation players, allocation results. *2013 NWSL Supplemental Draft: After a limited free agency period, NWSL pooled remaining players who were identified by the teams to be distributed via draft. National Women's Soccer League
The National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) is a women's professional Association football, soccer league and the highest level of the United States soccer league system#Women's leagues, United States soccer league system (alongside the USL Super League). The league comprises 14 teams (16 in 2026). It is owned by the teams and sanctioned by the United States Soccer Federation. The NWSL is headquartered in Midtown Manhattan. The NWSL was established in 2012 as the successor to Women's Professional Soccer (WPS; 2007–2012), which was itself the successor to the Women's United Soccer Association (WUSA; 2000–2003). The league began play in 2013 with eight teams, four of which were former members of WPS (Boston Breakers, Chicago Red Stars, Sky Blue FC, and Western New York Flash). Portland Thorns FC
Portland Thorns FC is an American professional Association football, soccer team based in Portland, Oregon, that competes in the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL). Established in 2012, the team began play in 2013 in the then-eight-team NWSL, which received support from the United States Soccer Federation (USSF). In its 2013 Portland Thorns FC season, inaugural season, Portland Thorns FC placed third during the regular season and, in the playoffs, won the first NWSL championship. The club won the NWSL Shield in 2016 and a second NWSL Championship in 2017. In 2020, they won the Community Shield with the best record in the 2020 NWSL Fall Series. Arianna Romero
Arianna Jeanette Romero Téllez (born 29 July 1992) is an American-born Mexican footballer who plays as a central defender or a fullback. Youth and collegiate career Youth Romero did not participate in high school soccer at her alma mater, Willow Canyon High School. Instead, she played club soccer in Phoenix, Arizona for Sereno SC under Coach Dave Simeone. As a midfielder/defender, she helped the Sereno 92 Golden Eagles to eight state championships and three Region IV semifinal appearances. Additionally, her squad won 13 tournament titles and was a finalist at the Disney College Showcase. Individually, Romero was on the 2009 Arizona Olympic Development Program team that advanced to the semifinals of the Region IV Championship. Verónica Pérez
Verónica Raquel Pérez Murillo (born 18 May 1988) is a footballer who plays as an attacking midfielder. Born in the United States, she represented the Mexico women's national team. Between 2009 and 2016 she also played in professional leagues in the United States, Europe, and Australia. Perez retired from international football in 2017 after the newly created Liga MX Femenil restricted eligibility to compete to only Mexico-born players. Chicago Stars Football Club is an American professional soccer team based in the Chicago metropolitan area that competes in the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL). A founding member of the Women's Professional Soccer (WPS) league as the Chicago Red Stars, they have played in the NWSL since 2013. The Stars play their home games at SeatGeek Stadium. They have reached the NWSL Championship twice, losing each time in 2019 and 2021. The team played in WPS in 2009 and 2010. The Houston Dash are an American professional soccer team based in Houston, Texas, that competes in the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL). The Dash began play in the 2014 season. Brittany Bock
Brittany Christine Bock (born April 11, 1987) is a retired American women's soccer midfielder. Early life Bock was born in Naperville, Illinois and attended Neuqua Valley High School. In 2009, she was enrolled in the Mendoza College of Business at the University of Notre Dame, majoring in Marketing. Bock played for Windy City Pride from 2002 to 2004 under Ko Thanadabouth. Prior to that she played with Team Chicago Soccer Club under Hudson Fortune. In 2004 and 2005, she played for the Eclipse Select Soccer Club alongside future Notre Dame teammate Elise Weber. University of Notre Dame Bock became a highly influential player during her career at Notre Dame. Orlando City Soccer Club is an American professional soccer club based in Orlando, Florida. The club competes in Major League Soccer (MLS) as a member of the Eastern Conference.
