List Of NBL1 West Champions
The champion teams of the NBL1 West, formerly the State Basketball League (SBL), are determined annually by a grand final weekend hosted by Basketball Western Australia. All grand finals have been played in a one-game championship decider, except in 1995 when a best-of-three series was used. In 2010, the WA Basketball Centre hosted the grand finals for the first time. In 2024, the grand final host venue shifted to Perth Arena. NBL1 West
NBL1 West, formerly the State Basketball League (SBL), is a semi-professional basketball league in Western Australia, comprising both a men's and women's competition. In 2020, Basketball Western Australia partnered with the National Basketball League (Australia), National Basketball League (NBL) to bring NBL1 to Western Australia. NBL1 replaced the former SBL to create more professional pathways and opportunities for males and females playing basketball in Western Australia. As a result, the SBL became the west conference of NBL1. History The State Basketball League originated in 1972 as the District Competition. The 2016 State Basketball League season was the 28th season of the State Basketball League (SBL). The regular season began on Friday 18 March and ended on Saturday 30 July. The finals began on Friday 5 August and concluded with the women's grand final on Friday 2 September and the men's grand final on Saturday 3 September. Pre-season The 2016 SBL Pre-Season Blitz was held at Warwick Stadium over Saturday 5 March and Sunday 6 March. The club is a division of Kalamunda & Districts Basketball Association (KDBA), the major administrative basketball organisation in Perth's eastern region. Rockingham Flames is an NBL1 West club based in Perth, Western Australia. The club fields a team in both the Men's and Women's NBL1 West. The club is a division of the Rockingham Basketball and Recreation Association (RBRA), the major administrative basketball organisation in the region. The Flames play their home games at Mike Barnett Sports Complex. Club history In the early 1970s, Rockingham and Districts Basketball Association was established. The Rockingham Flames made their debut in the State Basketball League (SBL) in 1992 in the form of a women's team, becoming the first club to introduce a women's program before a men's program. South West Slammers is an NBL1 West club based in Bunbury, Western Australia. The club fields a team in both the Men's and Women's NBL1 West. The Slammers play their home games at Eaton Recreation Centre and represent Western Australia's South West region. The club has gone through a number of name changes over the years. Club history 1989 saw the formation of the State Basketball League (SBL) with both a men's and women's competition. A team from Bunbury, known as the Slammers, entered the Men's SBL for its inaugural season.
