Cinema Of Colombia
Cinema of Colombia refers to film productions made in Colombia, or considered Colombian for other reasons. Colombian cinema, like any national cinema, is a historical process with industrial and artistic aspects. Historically, Colombian cinema has not been profitable as an industry, which has prevented continuing production and employing filmmakers and technicians. During the first decades of the 20th century, there were some companies that attempted to maintain a constant level of production, but the lack of economic support and strong foreign competition ended up ruining the initiatives. In the 1980s, the newly created state-run Cinematographic Development Company (''Compañía de Fomento Cinematográfico'' FOCINE) allowed some productions to be carried out. However, the company had to be liquidated in the early 1990s. ''Garras de oro'' (''Golden Claws''), also known as ''Alborada de justicia'' (''Dawn of Justice''), is a 1927 Colombian silent film. Background The direction of the film is credited to "P.P. Jambrina", which was a pseudonym used by Alfonso Martínez Velasco, who became mayor of Cali from September 1930 to September 1931. The film is a fierce critique of United States policy towards Latin America, focusing in particular on the United States' backing of Panamanian separatists that led to the partition of the former Isthmus Department from Colombia. The film's opening intertitle reads: "This film-novel is to protect from the oblivion of memory an important episode in modern history, which by fortune became the first stone in a landslide that tore apart our coat of arms and battered our eagles." ''Sendero'' ('Path') was a Spanish-language newspaper in Paraguay, published by the Paraguayan Episcopal Conference (CEP). Initially it was a fortnightly and was later converted into a weekly newspaper. History The first issue of ''Sendero'' was published in July 1973. The previous press organ of CEP, ''Comunidad'' had been shut down in 1969 after persistent repression and harassment from the Alfredo Stroessner government. Allá is a rock band formed by three young Chicanos (Mexican-Americans) from Chicago: Jorge Ledezma (guitars, keyboards, vibraphone, composer & producer), his brother Angel Ledezma (drums) and Lupe Martinez (vocals, guitar and keyboards). As inspired by German krautrock ( Can, Faust), '60s pop productions (from Phil Spector to Tamla Motown) and electronica as by Mexican trio music and Brazilian Tropicalia, they aim at producing a kind of psychedelic Latin pop/rock. The band members previously collaborated in an instrumental band called Defender, and the Ledezma brothers have played with former Can singer Damo Suzuki.
