Clube Atlético Mineiro is a Brazilian football club based in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil. The club was formed in 1908 as ''Athletico Mineiro Foot Ball Club'', and changed its name to the current one in 1913. Atlético Mineiro played its first competitive match on 15 July 1915, when it entered the inaugural Campeonato Mineiro, the state league of Minas Gerais. Atlético Mineiro's first official trophy was the Campeonato Mineiro in 1915, the inaugural edition of the competition, which the club has won a record 43 times. Atlético's only Campeonato Brasileiro title was won in 1971, and the first Copa do Brasil came in 2014. At international level, Atlético was the most successful club of the Copa CONMEBOL with two wins, and has won the Copa Libertadores and the Recopa Sudamericana once each. 1937 Copa Dos Campeões Estaduais
The 1937 Campeonato Brasileiro Série A (officially the 1937 Torneio dos Campeões) was the 1st edition of the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A. It was an official tournament organized by the now defunct Brazilian Football Federation (FBF) and aimed to point the Brazilian champion at that time. It was the second time a state champions cup happened in Brazil. The competition brought together the 1936 champions of the state leagues of Espírito Santo, Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, and was played in round-robin for points systems. The winning team was the Atlético Mineiro. On 25 August 2023, the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) officially recognized the tournament as analogous to the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A, thus conferring to Atlético Mineiro the status of first national champions of Brazil. The Brazilian football league system is a series of interconnected leagues for football clubs in Brazil. It consists of several independent pyramids, which are the national pyramid and the states pyramids. As these pyramids are independent, clubs usually compete in a state pyramid and a national pyramid. Both the national pyramid and the states pyramids consist of several levels. The best placed teams in the states championships compete in the Copa do Brasil. Structure There are two simultaneous and independent functioning pyramids in Brazil's football, the national pyramid and the states pyramids. The Torneio Roberto Gomes Pedrosa, also known as Taça de Prata, or nicknamed Robertão, was an association football competition contested in Brazil between 1967 and 1970 among soccer teams from São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Rio Grande do Sul, Minas Gerais and Paraná states. The Taça Brasil () was the Brazilian national football championship contested from 1959 to 1968. Bahia, Cruzeiro and Botafogo were the only champions to have played all phases of the tournament, because until the 1968 edition teams from Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo were already qualified to the semi-finals. Both Cruzeiro and Bahia, the only champions not from Rio or São Paulo, beat the Santos Futebol Clube whose players included Pelé, Coutinho and Pepe.
